Royston Town Ladies 1  Billericay 3

After 5 weeks without a fixture it was not surprising that Town looked a bit rusty and conceded an early goal after some slack defending, but fought back for the rest of the half but without creating any real chances.  A goalkeeping error allowed the visitors to go two up early in the second half before Marie Miller got one back with 20 minutes to go but Billericay secured all three points with a late goal.  Player of the match went to Wendy Webster with Leanne Buchannan and Gemma Barlow both having excellent games in defence.

Royston Town Reserves 4 v Stony Stratford Res 0

Royston were able to gain revenge over Stony for an earlier League defeat in this 3rd Round Reserve cup tie at Garden Walk.

The visitors started the brighter of the teams and put the Town back line under constant pressure from the kick off which due to some sublime defending never really reached Barlow in the Royston goal.

As the game wore on the home side settled in to a rhythm and began to pass the ball much better and bring the wide men into the game.

Morriss was a constant thorn in the side of the Stony defence as was Wilkinson on the opposite flank with Dallaway and Crosk supporting every attack it was only a question of when the Town would score.

On 27 minutes Dallaway squared the ball following a mazy run along the bye line and BRAD WILKINSON notched his 1st goal for the Club. Royston extended the lead with a SCOT CROSK double the 1st a tap in from a JAMIE MORRISS cross and the 2nd a brave header from a deep corner.

The game was over as a contest really and the 2nd period saw the Crows further extend their lead with DALLAWAY slotting home from close range after good approach play involving the returning JON BITTING and BILLY SEWEEL.

The game petered out there really with COOKE, BLOSS, APOSTOLES and MEREDITH standing firm to thwart any threat from Stony.

Ressie manager Kev Wilson was quick to praise his side ' We have a resilience about us now that was missing in our earlier games. We have become a hard side to beat, and with our attacking options will always pose a goal threat to teams.'

The Ressies now return to league action with a very difficult away trip to Oxhey Jets mid-week.

FA Vase - Third Round Proper   Royston Town       2-1      Stanway Rovers

It certainly wont go down as Royston's best performance of the season and at times it was very nervy and scrappy from Paul Attfield's young side but the final scoreline was the most important outcome as nearly 300 spectators witnessed the home side making the last 32 for the third time in the club's history. Last week at Aylesbury Royston were hard done by with nothing to show from an excellent performance but on this day Stanway will probably feel just as Royston did last week, with enough first half chances to run away with the game but failure to convert these ended up to be their downfall. Stanway started superbly showing why they occupy fourth place in the Ridgeons Premier Divisionand within three minutes a curling 25 yard effort thudded against Jorden Gibson's crossbar. Another two presentable chances narrowly missed and a free header from a corner went inches over before the deserved visiting opener come on ten minutes when a long throw bobbled around the six yard box before being prodded over the line from close range. This failed to galvanise the shellshocked hosts and Jorden Gibson had to make a smart one on one block moments later. Royston began to settle but increasingly gave the ball away on their ventures forward and created nothing until they turned the game completely on its head witha two goal burst within two minutes. Full back Lewis Endacott salvaged his team in the 35th minute with a spectacular burst into the box evading three challenges before striking into the far corner from ten yards. Before Stanway could work out the equlaiser they were behind when a move down the left ended with opposite full back Arin Fehmi bursting into the box and crossing superbly for Josh Bronti to head home from eight yards. Now in the ascendancy Ryan Lockett smashed a 25 yarder straight at the keeper which was only just claimed at the second attempt with Ricky Young prowling. Just before half time the visitors had another excellent chance with defensive hesitancy allowing Newson to round Gibson but the tight angle and Ben Stocker's defensive lunge was enough to see the shot hit the outside of the post. Boss Paul Attfield replaaced defender Luke Jones with David Cain at half time to solidify the creaking defence and Royston returned with far more life in what turned to be a more even second half with both teams spurning further chances. Stanway probably had the better with two 25 yard free kicks bringing a save and a near miss and they did have the ball in the net mid way though the half when a free kick was dropped by Gibson but the linesman flagged for a close offside call. At the other end David Cain and BEn Stocker headed corners just over and Royston's best counter attacking move of the game ended with Bronti crossing for Ross Collins who somehow blazed over from eight yards. With the clock running down and in the 95th minute Stanway mounted one last attack and the resultiing corner was headed against the crossbar with vigorous appeals that it had crossed the line before being cleared but teh full time whistle went leaving the young Crows jubilated with Stanway bitterly angry and disappointed with the officials   Attfield commenetd: " We looked nervous in the first half and just couldn't find any rhythmn. You do have to give credit to our visitors who were very solid and well organised but they helped us out with their failure in front of goal and Lewis's goal changed the whole course of the game. We were much better in the second half and I felt in relatively good control of it. We could have got a third but our own failure to kill off the game caused a few agonising moments but thats what you get sometimes in important cup games, lots of excitement. Last week we played well and lost, today we struggled for a porportion and won, that football for you but its massive for the players and club to get to the last 32."       Team  Gibson Endacott Fehmi Jones (Cain) Stocker Collins EDwards Bronti Young Lockett Robins    Subs Unused Dolan, Malins Apostolos Dallaway

28th November Royston Res 3 Hoddesdon Res 2

For the 1st time this season The Crows Reserves managed back to back wins by beating top of the table Hoddesdon.
The home side welcomed back Jamie Morriss and veteran defender Michael Baker, which allowed them to start the match with a solid 4-4-2 and straight away Hoddesdons back line was under pressure,With Stuart Dalloway constantly spearheading that pressure it was only a matter of time before the lead. This was so proved on 20 minutes,Dallaway converting a Morriss centre before recording his and Roystons 2nd firing home a Barlow long clearance.
At this point a 3rd for Town would have killed the game, but Hoddesdon had other ideas.Royston defence lost concentration as possession was conceded further up field with Hoddesdon snapping at the home sides heels and a long ball was shot beyond Barlows reach by the opposition forward to bring his side back into the game.
With just 3 minutes to go for half time Hoddesdon levelled,as Royston failed to clear again and a low driven centre was put into the Royston net from just 6 yards.
A slight re-shuffle due to injury for the 2nd period was forced onto the Town but seemed to cause little or no disruption as they more than contained their visitors and as the game wore on both teams had chances to take all 3 points with skipper Barlow keeping his side afloat with 2 point blank saves, before Baker had to be withdrawn with a slight niggle, forcing Town to adopt a back 3,introducing the lively Brenden Lees.As the match entered into its final 5 minutes, Morriss again took the ball to the by line a lifted a deep cross to the far post, where Aaron Williams headed home for the winner.

John Bloss, assistant manager was quick to praise this win 'This was a monster win and shows what the chaps are all about.'
Next week Crows travel to Cockfoster here another win will see them emerge into the upper half of the table.

Harpenden Town Res 1 Royston Res 3

It was once again a much changed Royston second string that travelled to this difficult away tie at the weekend. With 2 senior players withdrawing from the team late on,BEN COOPER and SAM BOWLES were drafted in from the 'A' team and showed their worth with strong performances.
It was from a corner taken by COOPER that Town took the lead when STUART DALLAWAY rose highest to power a header home and the lead was quickly doubled when STUART JACKSON crept in at the back post to fire home a DAN SCOTT'S slide rule pass.
Newly appointed skipper RICHIE BARLOW had little to do in the opening period but inspire his side.
With CHAFFEY and BLOSS winning the aerial battle is was only a matter of time before Royston scored a 3rd.MIKE BLOSS won a header from deep and carried his run on into the Harpenden box,MERIDETHS centre was unselfishly squared by DALLAWAY and BLOSS slid home completing Roystons best move of the day.
Several chances were created but not converted as The Town failed to match their 1st half efforts,Harpenden even pulled a goal back but little could dampen the day for The Crows.
Barlow commented ' This was a massive win for us.The gaffers called for more effort and the guys responded well'.

The main challenge ahead is to maintain this new found optimism!!!

Royston went in at half time 2-1 down during the break Roystons manager Terry Gore made some tactical changes. K. Barthrop came off the bench and was causing havoc. Therfield defence was at sixes and sevens and was rocking. During this spell Royston hit the post twice and the Thefield Keeper made some great saves to keep Therfield in the game. With 20 minutes remaining Paul Lewis managed to get on the end of a searing cross from Adam smith to bring the sides level. Despite both sides having chances late on to take a winner the game ended 2-2

Guilden Morden Vets  0  Royston Town Vets 4

Town Vets produced another impressive display to overcome a lively Guilden Morden side in an entertaining game on Sunday.

The movement and interpassing between strikers Peter Leete and Paul Lewis caused the home side problems throughout the first half. Town opened the scoring after 15 minutes when Leete headed in a Kevin Barthrop free-kick on the right. Lewis added a second when Leete headed on over the last defender. Then Leete and Carlo Silenti combined to score from close range for number three.

Town’s defence was giving nothing away at the other end of pitch and ‘keeper Simon Dobson was quick to sweep up any danger that threatened the goal.

The all-action Silenti chipped the home ‘keeper to score Town’s fourth goal following good work by Steve Holden.

In the second Town created several good chances but their finishing deserted them and they could not extend their lead.

Morden enjoyed more of the ball and created some good openings themselves but Dobson denied them a deserved goal with three good saves.

Royston Town Vets:  S.Dobson, N.King, B.Cannon, K Flack, G.Pinner, S.Holden, C.Silenti, K.Barthrop, I.Allen, P.Leete, P.Lewis, R.Harris.

  • 25 October '09' - Royston Vets 6 Standon & Puckeridge 2

  • Town Vets produced some of their best football of the season to beat a competitive Standon & Puckeridge team in difficult weather conditions at Garden Walk on Sunday.

A lot of the early play was fought out in the middle third of the field but after 20 minutes Town took the lead when Paul Lewis crossed from the left wing to set up strike partner Peter Leete to coolly slot home. Nick King released Dave Daniels down the right and the speedy midfielder outpaced the visiting defence to score Town’s second goal.

Town continued to edge play in the second half and Leete soon extended Town’s lead when he converted another pass from Lewis. The visitors reduced the arrears when Town’s defence were for once caught square and an opposition forward gave McArthur no chance from close range. Town made it 4-1 when Adam Smith sent in an excellent cross from the right touchline to find Leete at the back post who headed in to complete the perfect hat-trick (left foot, right foot and header). Nick Humphries added Town’s fifth goal before Standon & Puckeridge reduced the arrears again. Dave Daniels completed the scoring with a right foot volley that beat the ‘keeper at the near post.

24 October ‘09’ –Res Challenge Trophy round 2
Royston Res 5 Aylesbury Res 1

  • Another Home game, another changed line up but a very different performance and result as the Ressies began the defence of the cup that they won in such dramatic fashion last season.   With 3 debutants in the line up it took Royston a little time to settle.WILLIAMS and SUANDERS grafting hard in Midfield ably supported by a resilient back four well marshalled by the return of MIKE BAKER. The visitors managed to find the back of the net with their only shot of the 1st half, a long range effort that took a wicked bounce in front of young WAYNE SIMPSON in his 1st appearance for the club. MIKE BLOSS put the Town on level terms with a typical brave powerful header from a corner right on the stroke of the half. From the start of the 2nd period there really was no stopping Royston and in particular the last of the debutants STUART DALLOW in the front line.Time and time again he put the Aylesbury defence on the backfoot and gained his just rewards with a well taken goal.Skipper SAUNDERS netted from close range and BRENDAN LEES showed what a bright future he has ,thundering home from a full 40 yards for number 4. As the game ran to an end DALLOW thundered home a fierce angled drive completing a fine day for him and his new team.

  • Town Vets returned to winning ways with a 7-1 victory over Goldin Old Boys at Hertford in gale-force winds on Sunday.

Simon Dobson took over in goal and Stuart Moulding played his first game for the Vets after a 5-year absence.

Town started brightly and with good ball retention despite the difficult conditions. Peter Leete opened the scoring for Royston when he chipped the ‘keeper from 30 yards on the left. Further chances came and went until after 20 minutes Carlo Silenti collected a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area and drove a right foot shot past the ‘keeper. A mistimed pass from Paul Higginbotham gave the opposition an opening which they duly took to reduce the arrears when leaving Dobson with no chance in goal.

Town took complete control of a one-sided game in the second half. Leete scored their third goal with a far post header from a pinpoint cross from Adam Smith who then scored himself with a long high ball that eluded the home ‘keeper. Matt McQueen then added a 5th from close range and Geoff Pinner scored number six with a left foot screamer. The final goal was scored by Higginbotham with a fine solo effort that saw him dribble from the half-way line, ghost past defenders and finish off with a dribble round the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net.

She quickly followed up a minute later scoring her second. Emma Chaffey then scored a long range free kick that Foulger almost got on the end of for her hatrick but the ball went in anyway for the Crows 4th. Royston were playing some neat football from the back and winger Jamie Morriss was causing all sorts of problems for the opposition. Tring created chances for themselves and let the Crows off the hook when their centre forward missed a golden opportunity. In the second half much off the play was in Tring’s half but the Crows couldn’t find a way past the keeper. Richard Barlow made a crucial penalty save to preserve the Crows lead. The Reserve team manager Kevin Wilson will be pleased to take three points from the first game and next up is Oxhey Jets Reserves at home next Saturday.

Luke Robins got the Crows only goal when he cut inside and from a tight angle blasted the ball fiercely past the Hoddesdon keeper. In the second half the Crows defended well but offered little going forward and held out for a place in the next round.

27 August '09' - The Crows really are flying!!

Royston Town FC’s new strike force dropped into the Garden Walk ground yesterday afternoon to get themselves used to their new pad!

Club President, Alan Barlow, was on hand to capture on camera the landing of the East Anglian Air Ambulance on the pitch as the MAGPAS team attended to an incident in Mill Road.  The helicopter, based at RAF Whitton, is supported purely by charitable donations and costs approximately £2.5m per annum to keep in the air.

With tongue in check Alan commented “This is the most expensive transfer deal in the Club’s history and poses a real selection headache for Paul Attfield before our FA Cup game.  I think Paul doesn’t think they’ll be much good on the wing and instead expects them to hover about the box and win everything in the air!!”

On a more serious note, Alan said “We’re pleased that the Club was able to provide them with a perfect landing area – they do a fantastic job for the communities in our area”.

26 August '09' - SSMFL Premier Division: CROWS 5-1 Kentish Town

Shortly before half time Ryan Wade gave the Crows the lead when he was one on one with the keeper who saved his first effort but Wade put away the rebound. In the second half defender Michael Debnam continued his goal scoring exploits by heading home the Crows third followed by another headed goal from Carl Edwards. The Crows wrapped up the scoring three minutes from time when substitute Josh Bronti poked the ball into the bottom corner.

19 August '09' - SSMFL Premier Division: Broxbourne Borough 6-1 CROWS

Royston Town where shown just what the Premier Division was all about by Broxbourne Borough last night in this heavy defeat. The Crows were sporting their new away kit kindly sponsored by VB Trophies but it didn’t get a welcome debut. Borough hit the Crows hard in the 23rd minute and 27th minute scoring twice in quick succession. The first was a scored by ex Royston player Bradley Poole who saw his Drogba like cross fly in to the net off the back post. It got a lot worse for the Crows in the second half as they conceded again two minutes in when the Royston defence were caught napping as they were all to often and a square ball across Richard Barlow’s goal gave a Broxbourne player an open goal to aim at. At 3-0 down Royston were awarded a penalty for a blatant push in the area and Ryan Wade dispatched the penalty to give a glimmer of hope. Borough took control of the game again and scored three more goals including one in the 90th minute to add to the misery.

Wade previously played for Broxbourne Borough where he scored against the Crows last season in the Herts Charity Shield final. He was last season’s Premier Division top scorer bagging 33 goals. Speaking about his new signing manager Paul Attfield said “I am delighted to get Ryan on board. He is a player proven at Premier Division level and was my biggest target when Craig left for Histon. He has pace, trickery and great movement and I have no doubt he will score lots of goals for us in the future.”

13 August '09' - LADIES 1-3 Peterborough

Royston Town's Ladies side was in action tonight against Premier Division side Peterborough after original opponents Histon Hornets pulled out of their friendly match. The Crows put on a spirited performance with a new keeper between the sticks but eventually went down 3-1 with Emma Chaffey scoring the Crows only goal with the last kick of the game.

12 August ‘09’ - SSMFL Premier Division: CROWS 3-0 KLT

Royston Town recorded their first win of the season at home to Kingsbury London Tigers after a brace from half time substitute Scott Crosk and a Will Turl strike. In the first half it was a pretty even contest with neither side taking command as both sides had a number of good opportunities to take the lead. For the Crows Captain Luke Robins hit the bar in the first half and KLS hit the woodwork twice in the first half, the second time was when keeper Richard Barlow made a good save to push the ball onto the post. In the second half manager Paul Attfield made some tactical changes and brought Scott Crosk on for Jamie Morriss and the move almost instantly paid off when two minutes in to the second half Crosk was at the back post to drive the ball into the bottom left hand corner.  Will Turl had a number of good opportunities during the game but he eventually scored on 67 minutes when he won a header from a deep cross then reacted to the lose ball quickest to score the Crows second. Robins again hit the bar in the second half when he saw the keeper off his line but his effort hit the top of the bar and went out for a goal kick. Crosk then had a chance for his second but again was denied by the bar when his thunderous effort cannoned back into play off the bar. Crosk got his second and the Crows third in the 80th minute when he controlled the ball on the bounce and volleyed it across the keeper into the top right hand corner.

11 August '09' - FA Cup match change of day and venue

8 August ‘09’ – SSMFL Premier Division: Biggleswade United 1-1 CROWS

A late equaliser from 18 year old Scott Crosk secured a point for the Crows on the opening day of the season. It was a hot, sunny day at Biggleswade’s revamped Second Meadows ground and the game started at a fast pace with neither side able to take control. New signing Matt Cook partnered Captain David Cain in the centre of defence with Will Turl playing upfront with Luke Robins playing in the hole and Jamie Morris playing left wing. Biggleswade gave the Crows a scare early on when a free kick was whipped in low from the left and eluded everybody and rebounded back off the post, but no player able to get a foot on it. The game was then delayed for about 40 minutes when an ambulance was called for an injury to Gregg Jackson. When the game got restarted both teams seemed to have lost their tempo and rhythm with Joe Tyler coming on to replace Jackson. Cain had what looked to be a perfectly good headed goal from a corner disallowed for a foul elsewhere in the box. In the second it was more of a physical battle than a passing game which didn’t suit the Crows as they struggled to keep possession of the ball and create any meaningful attacks and chances. The Crows best attack of the match was when Ross Collins was slid through on goal with the keeper only just saving his shot from just underneath him. The Biggleswade keeper then launched a counter attack down the left which eventually made its way to the centre forward who took a touch into the Crows area and under pressure from a Royston defender put the ball past keeper Jorden Gibson. Royston tried hard to find an equaliser but their final ball was always thwarted by the Biggleswade defenders. The Crows equaliser came in the 90th minute after an attack down the left, Robins delivered the ball in and after two attempted headed clearances from Biggleswade players Crosk was able to latch on to the lose ball and volley home from 12 yards to rescue a point.

7 August ‘09’ – Fowlmere 0-7 RESERVES

Royston Town manager Paul Attfield was able to look at the rest of his squad in this match before the big kick off on Saturday against Biggleswade United. Reserve Team manager Kevin Wilson and his assistant John Bloss took charge of the team in a game dominated by the Crows with some fast attacking football. The visitors created an abundance of chances and despite the number of goals scored they still missed lots of chances and were denied by some excellent goalkeeping. Goalscorers on the night were Jordan McGarvie (2), Will Turl(2), Graham Dove, Taz Chiwongo and Jan Stephens.

Graham Hagger’s A Team played their first pre season friendly at Eternit Sports Club against RHS United ware they eventually ran out 4-2 winners. The A side will be playing Litlington Athletic in a friendly next Thursday at Litlington. The Ladies Team had their match against Bedford abandoned at half time due to the heavy rainstorm and to protect the Garden Walk pitch. The team had been playing well in the first half under new manager Steve Buchanan despite being two goals down.

5 August ‘09’ – Royston Town 5-1 Cambridge City

Royston Town completed their pre season fixture list in style by seeing off Zamaretto League Premier Division opposition Cambridge City 5-1. The Crows took the lead through an own goal early on after Scott Crosk crossed the ball in only for a city defender to turn in to his own net. The Crows looked comfortable for most of the half keeper Jorden Gibson didn’t have nothing major to do. City levelled the score line right on half time after Gibson made a save from close range but the ball fell to a city player who tapped the ball home. In the second half manager Paul Attfield made four changes bringing on Damian Williamson, Michael Debnam, Jamie Morris and Ryan Wade. Luke Robins had an excellent second half playing in the whole behind the striker making the most of his creative ability. He scored a fantastic individual goal followed by a neat finish from trailist Wade before the pair linked up for the forth when Robins slid the ball back across goal for Wade to put into an empty net. Wade completed his hatrick on his first appearance for the Crows when he finished off Morris’s effort that came back off the post. Royston gave an excellent performance against higher division opposition and they now look in good nick for the season opener on Saturday away at Biggleswade United.

3 August ‘09’ – Farewell Craig and good luck!

It has been confirmed today that striker Craig Hammond has signed a one year contract at Blue Square Premier club Histon after an undisclosed four figure fee was agreed between Histon and Royston Town. Craig was a prize asset to the Crows accumulating 75 goals last season and taking on the role as club captain. Club President Alan Barlow had this to say:

“While we are obviously sorry to lose Craig, who has been a tremendous asset to the club over the past two seasons, we are really pleased that he will be able to have the opportunity to play at the highest level of non league football with a club of the calibre of Histon.

“In the time Craig has been with Royston he has matured as a player and that is in no small part due to the role of our manager Paul Attfield.

“Paul has installed in him a greater sense of discipline and Craig has certainly benefited from this and was rewarded the club captaincy last season.

“He is a natural goal scorer as his 75 goals for the club in all competitions last season proved.

“We wish Craig and Histon all the best for the coming season for the forthcoming season. We are confident that he will be a great success, score lots of goals and become a fans favourite.

Craig was definitely a fans favourite at Garden Walk and on behalf of everyone at the club we wish him well in the future!

2 August '09' - Takeley 0-2 CROWS

This was a decent result, performance and work out for Paul Attfield's side against strong Essex Senior League opposition with just one week to go before their first league game.

The first half was played at a fast pace from both teams but Royston had control of the initial periods with Tom Malins having a great early chance but his drilled shot when through on goal was turned wide for a corner. From the corner Matt Cook headed just over. Full Back Lewis Endacott was also unlucky when he cut in from the right with his 25 yard shot deflecting onto the top of the crossbar. Takeley came more into the game and won a number of corners that they never threatened from. Their best chance when a defensive mistake let in a forward who had time to finish but was denied by Damian Williamson. Royston took the lead on 35 minutes when a deep right wing cross eluded everyone but Luke Robins reacted quickest to hook a shot towards goal that beat the keeper at the near post. Royston pleasingly came out and dominated the majority of the second half in terms of possession their movement and reacting to the loose ball were particularly on song together with theircollective fitness levels showing through on a muggy afternoon. Jamie Morris and Lewis Endacott fizzed shots just wide, Scott Crosk was denied by the goalkeeper's legsand some gooddefensive play thwarted other clear chances being created but as Town got more and more on top they deservedly got a second goal in the 87th minute. Damian Williamson's long clearance was flicked on by Scott Croskand Greg Jackson ran through to flick over the advancing keeper. Royston’s penultimate pre season friendly is this coming Tuesday at Garden Walk against Cambridge City.

31 July '09' - Herts FA Charity Shield: Hertford Town 2-0 CROWS

Royston Town were knocked out in the first round of the Herts FA Charity Shield last night losing 2-0 away at Hertford Town. The Crows got off to the worst possible start conceding a goal within 54 seconds when Hertford's Pablo Ardiles scored from outside the box. Craig Hammond had the Crows best opportunity of the half when his one on one opportunity was smothered by the keeper. The Crows were camped in the Hertford half for long periods of the first half with keeper Jorden Gibson not being troubled. In the second half Hertford struggled to get the ball out of their own half. It was the final ball that ultimately let the Crows down as Hammond was too isolated upfront and being marked tightly. One of the Crows best chances of the second half was from a corner that like the keeper had easily collected but then he dropped the ball and after a bit of a scramble no white shirt could stick the ball in the net. Royston were dealt the killer blow on 81 minutes when the Hertford keeper's drop kick was flicked on for the Hertford number ten to run through and fire home. The Crows faced Met Police Bushey last Tuesday were they lost 1-0 and next up in their preseason schedule is Takeley away this Saturday.

27 July '09' - Wroxham 2-1 CROWS

Royston completed their fourth pre season game in North Norfolk against tough opposition from Ridgeons Premier League side Wroxham. The hosts have always been a top side in their division and gave Paul Attfield's squad, with still high unavailability’s, the toughest workout. The opening stages were end to end with Wroxham’s lovely playing surface suitable to the strengths of both sides. The home keeper pulled off three stunning saves from Joe Tyler, Carl Edwards and David Cain. Unfortunately Royston's defense was breached twice in the first half with a close range finish and a crisp 20 yard strike. On a warm day Paul Attfield only had the 13 players to rotate and with Joe Tyler and Chris Mulins picking up injuries that didn’t help the situation but Royston played better football in the second half although chances were difficult to come by as both defensive unites did their jobs well. Jorden Gibson made one excellent diving save mid way through the half and with ten minutes remaining Royston deservedly reduced the deficit when Ricky Young's looping header from Jez McMurrough's cross went in off the far post and that goal proved to be the conclusion of the scoring.

24 July '09' - Haverhill Rovers 0-1 CROWS

The Crows pre season build up continued with good momentum after a narrow victory at Ridgeons Premier Division side Haverhill Rovers on Thursday evening. Manager Paul Attfield once again showed that he will have a considerably larger squad than last season by leaving out no fewer than 12 of last season's championship winning squad to run an eye over more players vying for a starting place in his plans. The game was very entertaining on the eye with a young opposition lively throughout and giving the Crows manager exactly the right sort of test. Haverhill had the better of the first half as they were quicker to the ball and, was sharper on it. They won numerous corners but Royston defended well as a unit and chances created were mainly half ones and Richard Barlow in goal was never seriously tested. In fact Royston could claim to have the best chance of the half when Taz Chiwongo's deep cross eluded everyone and found Jez McMurrough at the far post and despite good time his angled shot went the wrong side of the post.

Royston's second half was far more effective as they had the best of 30 minutes of fast, flowing, good football. Greg Jackson was prominent in most good things from midfield and he had trio of longer range efforts just miss the target. Ross Collins,JordenMcGarvie and Scott Crosk also went close to opening the scoring before tired limbs allowed the hosts to have a dominating spelllate on. They had three presentable chances late on, two flying just over and one scrambled from the line. Royston battled hard, which would have pleased Attfield and they nicked the only goal of the game in the 88th minute when centre half Matt Cook's free kick from the half way line eluded everyone’s jump and ended up in the bottom corner. Royston’s next friendly is away at Wroxham this Saturday 3pm kick off.

24 July '09' - RESERVE XI 5-3 UNDER 18s

This match was arranged at very short notice after Cambridge University Press Under 18’s pulled out of the game at 3pm in the afternoon. The select reserve team proved to be good opposition for the under 18’s who were forced to work hard and pass the ball. In the second half the under 18’s had to fight hard from three goals down but although they conceded two more they pulled back three goals in a game which was a good exercise for all the players.

19 July '09' - AFC Sutton Town 0-2 CROWS

Royston Town made the long trip to Nottinghamshire to take on Central Midlands League AFC Sutton Town and the 250 mile round trip was a worthwhile exercise for Paul Attfield's side. Despite a large number of absentees Attfield was able to experiment by rotating 14 players. Seventeen year old defender Chris Mulins, Midfielder Taz Chiwongo and former player Jez McMurrough all had eye catching games and which was an entertaining and committed affair. The first half was a tight battle with little space in midfield to create chances. Jorden Gibson made one point blank stop from a close range header and Jez McMurrough had Town's best chance when he raced clear but shot weekly off target. In the second half the early periods were dominated by Royston as their fitness levels looked to be genuinely superior at stages during the half. Craig Hammond opened the scoring in the 52nd minute when he raced onto Ricky Young's flicked header to shoot into the corner of the net from 12 yards. McMurrough and Young both had efforts superbly saved by the home keeper and David Cain had a looping header come back into play off the crossbar. Both sides had a goal ruled out with a Hammond effort being pulled back for offside and a close range header for AFC Sutton cancelled out for a foul on Gibson. The hosts James Senior shot tamely wide when well positioned and Gibson made a parried diving 15 yard block from a Peter Stubley effort but Royston deserved their margin of victory when a fine move saw Chiwongo released down the right and his early cross was clinically finished by Hammond from 15 yards. The Crows have two friendly matches in the next week when they visit Haverhill Rovers on Thursday evening 7.45pm kick off and next Saturday they travel to Norfolk to take on Wroxham of the Ridgeons Premier Division 3pm kick off.

12 July ‘09’ – Geoff Bright Memorial Match

During the first half there was only one team in the Geoff Bright Memorial match played at Litlington. The Crows front two of Richard Harris and Nick Humphries were running the opposition back four all over the place with the strength of Harris and the pace of Humphries who had a number of tight off side decisions made against him. Mark Saggers was a threat from left wing cutting in a number of times but unable to hit the target. At half time the Crows felt hard done by to be still at 0-0 but more wasted efforts couldn’t change that in the second half. Ian Ruggles scored the winner for Litlington when he burst in to the Royston box, looked to cut the ball back for another player but took a flick off of Carlo Silenti which took it passed keeper Michael Pinner. All the players were invited back to the Crown pub afterwards were there was a buffet and a raffle. The Club would like thank Litlington for hosting the game.

12 July ‘09’ - Crows draw with Bedford

Royston Town drew 1-1 with Bedford in their first pre season friendly. The Crows had a nineteen man squad which included former Crow Jez McMurrough and new defender Matt Cook, plus the first game back for Ross Collins after a long time out injured. The Crows thought they were 1-0 down early on as the opposition goal keeper took a free kick that first half Royston keeper Jorden Gibson misjudged the bounce and the ball went straight into the net. After some confusion the goal was disallowed because the kick was in fact indirect and did not touch anyone before it crossed the line. Strikers Dan Scott and McMurrough both worked hard upfront but could not find a way past the inform Bedford keeper. Luke Robins was showing signs of what he can do out on the wing as he was finding his feet. After some wholesale changes at half time the Crows took the lead with a thunderous strike from 25yards from midfielder Gregg Jackson. Craig Hammond was unfortunate on a number of occasions not to score. Defenders Jan Stephens and Michael Debnam both had good games at the back. After a defensive lapse Bedford managed to equalise. Bedford also had a good opportunity from a free kick that hit the under side of the crossbar but somehow didn’t go in. At the final whistle 1-1 was a fair reflection of the match. Royston’s next fixture is Saturday 18th July away to AFC Sutton Town 3:00pm kick off.

16 May '09' - TREBLE WINNERS...

Royston Town completed one of the most successful seasons of the clubs history by adding a third trophy to the cabinet last Friday. The Crows faced Oxhey Jets in the final of the South Midlands Senior Floodlit Cup Final. Oxhey Jets had home advantage on a wet evening that added to a fast game of football. The Crows created a few early opportunities in the first half with Luke Robins crossing the ball in for Craig Hammond and Josh Bronti but neither could hit the target. The Crows went 1-0 down after the Crows defence didn’t deal with a long throw which eventually saw an Oxhey player head the ball in. In the second half the Crows kept playing there football and eventually a well worked passage of play saw full back Lewis Endacott get on the end of a cross to head over the keeper. From then on the Crows kept pushing on for the second. Gregg Jackson made himself the hero when he had a shot from 20 yards that went straight into the bottom corner. The Crows held out for another 5 minutes and then the trophy was theirs.

14 May ‘09’ – Bouncebackability

Paul Attfield’s men will be looking for some bouncebackability after losing out in the Herts Charity Shield final 4-1 to Broxbourne Borough. The Crows had a good first half performance with Craig Hammond and Luke Robins providing the main attacking threats but were denied by some good pieces of goalkeeping. Although the score was 0-0 there was a sense that the game was turning ever so slowly in favour of Broxbourne. When some big decisions came along like the goalkeeper handling the ball outside the area for Broxbourne and a forearm smash in the face of Lewis Endacott forcing him to change his shirt twice because it had blood on it, were never punished it wasn’t going to be the Crows night. Broxbourne’s main chance in the first half was a thunderous effort from outside the area which keeper Richard Barlow got fingers to too push it on to the bar. On the stroke of half time Broxbourne took the lead after the ball was lost in defence and a Broxbourne centre forward was able to slot the ball home. In the second half Broxbourne doubled their lead on 54 minutes when they scored a breakaway goal and soon after that they got a third. For the first time this season in 64 competitive matches a Royston player saw a red card. Danny Apostolos fouled a winger out wide and in the protests afterwards Conor De Lacy threw the ball in the face off an opponent being dismissed for violent conduct. With around ten minutes left Luke Robins lifted the sombre mood with another brilliant solo run finishing it off by squeezing the ball under the keeper but the joy was short lived when Broxbourne scored a forth with a few minutes remaining to win the trophy. This Friday the Crows are in the South Midlands Senior Floodlit Cup Final against Oxhey Jets at Oxhey Jets Football Club.

12 May ‘09’ - Crows looking to win the treble

Royston Town will be looking to complete a treble tonight when they face Broxbourne Borough at the Herts County Ground in Letchworth this evening in the final of the Herts Charity Shield. Last week the Crows lost 2-0 away to Tilbury in the East Anglian Cup semi final and will be looking to bounce straight back

3 May '09' - Crows complete the DOUBLE!

Royston Town’s First Team followed in the Reserves footsteps yesterday by completing a memorable double by defeating Ampthill Town 2-0 in the Division One Cup final at Biggleswade Town FC. 420 spectators witnessed a game were Royston were always in control and Ampthill rarely threatened. Luke Robins scored first for the Crows following up on a Craig Hammond strike that the keeper could only parry. The Crows remained in control but couldn’t get that second goal. Ampthill did have one effort from range that just clipped the top of the bar as it went out. In the second half the Crows created a few more goal scoring opportunities the most memorable being Gregg Jackson’s one on one that hit the post. Tom Malins put the game to bed when his angled effort found the top corner. Once again congratulations to the team for another massive achievement!

1 May '09' - Reserves come back from 2-0 down to win the Challenge Trophy

King Kev’s Reserve team have completed an amazing double wining season thus far when they came back from 2-0 down to beat St Margetsbury Reserves 3-2 in the final of the Reserve Challenge Trophy at Broxbourne Borough last night. A disappointing first half performance from the Crows left little talking points at half time. The Crows conceded two goals on the 32nd minute and the 36th minute and if it wasn’t for two top saves from Damian Williamson between the sticks it could have been more. A minute before half time Graham Tibbals installed a glimmer of hope when he headed one back to half the deficit. Its was pretty obvious that words were said at half time and the Crows came out a completely different side, on the attack right from the restart. An early substitution by the Crows taking off Mark Saunders for Gregg Jackson helped to turn the game into the Crows favor as the Crows left a few chances begging. It was Josh Bronti who eventually got the equalizer on 56 minutes and from then on the Crows really started to dominate. Williamson was again called on to make a top class save pushing the ball over the bar. Town favorite Graham Tibbals made himself the hero when full back Dean Chaffey crossed the ball in for the number 9 to head home. The Crows still had to hold out for another 10 minutes but did so very comfortably and the celebrations started at the final whistle. Congratulations to the players and to Kevin Wilson and his assistant John Bloss who have made the Club and the Town proud!

29 April '09' - Super Crows reach third cup final

Royston Town have reached the final of the South Midlands Senior Floodlit Cup after beating Hertford Town 2-0 away from home. A large travelling group of fans saw the Crows just edges the first half without really creating a good goal scoring opportunity. Ten minutes into the second half Craig Hammond gambled on a mix up between defender and keeper to pass the ball into the back of the net to give the Crows the lead. The period after this the Crows were a bit flat and didn’t start to dominate. Hertford’s best chance came from a corner which was almost headed in but for the brilliance of Richard Barlow. Within ten seconds of Barlow making such a crucial save the Crows were 2-0 up. The ball was cleared out and Robins picked it up just inside the Crows half, using his blistering pace he went passed four players like they weren’t even there and despite the keepers best efforts to force the winger wide he squeezed the ball in from the tightest of angles, a truly breath taking solo effort. Congratulations to the team once more on reaching yet another final.

26 April '09' - First Team round off league campaign with 4-0 win

The First Team rounded off their league campaign this weekend with a 4-0 win away to Brache Sparta. Craig Hammond scored all four goals taking his final tally of league goals to 61 for the season. Many thanks must go to Brache Sparta who presented the Crows with three boards congratulating the club on winning the league. The Reserves were presented their league trophy after winning the Reserve Division Two East only losing one game the whole season.

Last night the Reserves travelled to Wodson Park in the league and lost for the first time this season in the league going down 2-1. The Reserves will be picking up the SSMFL Reserve Division Two East trophy this Saturday at Garden Walk when they face Biggleswade United Reserves.

21 April '09' - Crows dispatch of Broxbourne to progress to semi final

Royston Town over came their Premier Division opponents Broxbourne Borough in the South Midlands senior Floodlit Cup Quarter final to progress to the semi final stage. The game started off well for the Crows with that end of season feel about it Royston managed to force some early corners. Craig Hammond fired home from distance in the 21st minute before Broxbourne got back on level terms. But the Crows didn’t stay level for long as an excellent piece of control, skill and shot that looped over the keeper from Luke Robins on 33 minutes put the Crows ahead once more. In the second half although neither team created that many chances the game was still in the balance but Royston were awarded a penalty in the 89th minute after the keeper brought down Gregg Jackson in the area when he was running away from goal. Hammond fired home the penalty and the game was all but settled. Jackson picked up the man of the match award and Royston will have a semi final trip away to Hertford Town.

19 April '09' - Record so nearly broken as the Champions lift the trophy

Royston Town finally got their hands on the Spartan South Midlands Division One Trophy after winning their last league home game of the season 3-1 against Buckingham Athletic. An excellent effort from Chairman Steve Jackson and President Alan Barlow after his efforts of trying to break the clubs attendance record of 876 fell short by only 54 people as the biggest Crowd since that game in 1993 of 822 turned up to see the Crows be crowned champions. A fantastic atmosphere in the ground saw an outstanding performance from man of the match Ricky Young who scored the Crows first goal. It wasn't one of the Crows best performances but the pressure was off and once Craig Hammond was through just before half time and smashed home the second the Crows could relax a little. In the second half Buckingham pulled one back after sloppiness at the back but all that was forgotten after Ricky Young fire home from 25 yards out at the clubhouse end of the ground where the main supporters were receiving a massive round of applaud. At the end of the match The Royston team walked back out onto the pitch through the guard of honour from Buckingham Athletic and received the Team of the Month award, player’s league winner’s medals and the Division One Trophy. Congratulations to the players, coaching staff, committee members, supporters and everyone involved in Royston Town Football Club.

17 April '09' - Late drama at the Walk as Crows reach second cup final

A dramatic semi final of the Herts Charity Shield saw Royston Town run out eventual winners 5-4 against visitors Tring Athletic. On a wet evening the Crows were 1-0 down heading towards half time but an Arron Welch header minutes before the break put the Crows level again. Tring showed their Premier Division quality by scoring twice in quick succession to take a 3-1 lead. Luke Robins hit back heading in a second for the Crows. At 3-2 Royston were back in the game but Tring were awarded a penalty for hand ball which they converted to take a 4-1 lead with 15 minutes to go. Craig Hammond scored the third with 11 minutes to go and the Crows kept fighting hard but couldn't find a way through the Tring backline. In the 91st minute Luke Robins was brought down on the edge of the area and as the ref blew for a free kick a cheer came from the Royston fans behind the goal. Ryan Lockett stepped up with his right foot and bend it round the 6 man wall and in to the top corner. Extra time, not a chance, another solo run from the half way line from Luke Robins started to raise the atmosphere, as he got closer and closer to goal the noise level rose and as he managed to squeeze the ball home past the keeper from a tight angle Garden Walk erupted. Celebration from all 11 players and from the supporters who 10 minutes before thought they were out was there to see. Another spectacular result on a night when conditions didn't help a poor performance and a second cup final for the Crows to look forward to against Broxbourne Borough.

16 April '09' - Reserves keep record in tact ...

In a highly competitive game against Langford Reserves, Town produced a 2-0 victory, both goals coming in the second half by Graham Tibbals, to maintain their unbeaten record.

16 April '09' - Crosk gets the winner

After beating Bedford 5-0 at Garden Walk on Saturday the Crows visited Bedford Town Reserves looking to add another 3 points to their impressive tally so far. The winner came from Under 18's player Scott Crosk scoring his first goal for the first team.

8 April '09' - Champions, Champions, Champions. . . .

Royston Town clinched the South Midlands League Division I title last night with an emphatic win over Winslow 5-2.  Craig Hammond helped himself to 4 more goals

bringing his season’s total to 55 and Ryan Locket added a fifth with a 30 yard screamer of a free kick.

Town boss Paul Attfield commented “This as a very special night for everyone associated with the Club and is a tribute to all the hard work that has gone into this season both on and off the pitch”.

Reserve Challenge Trophy Final - Royston v St Margaretsbury

1 April 2009 - Town conquer Kings Langley

In what was a tense and highly physical game the Crows won this 6 pointer 2-1 with the help of a controversial penalty awarded 10 minutes from time. Craig Hammond opened the scoring for the Crows but KL hit back immediately after half time with the equaliser. From a cross from Luke Robins the referee adjudged that the Langley defender had handled the ball and awarded a penalty and then sent off the player in question. Hammond slotted away the kick to notch-up his 48th league goal of the season and secure all 3 points for the Crows.

The penalty incident in the game was so controversial it even became a talking point on the BBC programme "Talk Sport" on Tuesday afternoon!!

29 March '09' - Crows put in solid performance

Royston Town gave an assured performance when seeing off Arlesey Athletic 7-1. Manager Paul Attfield decided to give a few players on the fringe of his squad a run out with Graham Tibbals, Jamie Morris and Mark Roach all getting ninety minutes. It didn't take long for the Crows to take the lead with Craig Hammond finding himself with a free header from a corner two minutes in. Hammond got his second on twelve minutes when he rounded the keeper and seven minutes completed his hatrick. Jamie Morris scored one of his trade mark free kicks midway through the half. Hammond got his forth just before half time when an Arlesey defender missed the ball and Hammond rocketed the ball into the back of the net via the cross bar. At half time Hammond and David Cain were replaced with Mondays match against Kings Langley in mind. Arlesey were first to score in the second half with a brake away goal early on. Graham Tibbals got his name on the score sheet when he finished from close range and Morris completed the scoring when he cut inside and put the ball through the keeper’s legs.

27 March '09' - Back to winning ways

Royston Town got back to winning ways last night when they eventually dispatched of Ampthill Town 4-0 at Garden Walk in front of an attendance of 115. Although keeper Jorden Gibson never had a save to make the game was pretty even in the first half with Royston only just coming out on top. The Crows had a good opportunity to take the lead just before half time when Luke Robins struck the post from a free kick with no one being able to fire in the rebound. Royston took the lead early on in the second half when Arron Welch headed home the 100th league goal of the season for the Crows. Craig Hammond put the Crows 2-0 up midway through the half and made it three five minutes before the end when the keeper couldn't get down to his first time shot. Lewis Endacott scored his first of the season in stoppage time after beating two players down the right wing; his tame cross was deflected and went through the keepers legs. The result now leaves the Crows eight points clear with nine games left.

25 March '09' - Crows struggle at Harpenden Town

Another poor performance away from home in midweek saw Royston Town lose 1-0 against Harpenden Town. Royston never got going and it was no suprise that they found themselves 1-0 midway through the second half. The Crows will need to bounce back quickly with Ampthill Town visiting Garden Walk this Thursday (tomorrow) and Arlesey Athletic this Saturday.

25 March '09' - AWP gets green light

Representatives of the Football Foundation were in Town last Friday (20 March) to give the final seal of approval for AWP to be built at Meridian School.

With all the funds now in place the successful contractor in the tender process will be announced shortly with construction expected to start in the early summer.  The scheme should be completed by the end of August just in time for the start of the new football season.

Alan Barlow, RTFC’s President said “This is fantastic news for not only RTFC but for everyone associated with football in Royston.  From the Club’s point of view it will mean we can have an integrated approach to our winter training programme for our adult teams and also have facilities for many of the sides who make-up Royston Town Youth”.

22 March '09' - Reserves through to Challenge Trophy cup final

Kevin Wilson's reserve team are through to the Reserve Challenge Trophy final after narrowly beating The 61 FC Reserves 1-0 at Garden Walk. The first half was even but the pace in the Royston attack started to dominate in the second half with the Crows winning a number of free kicks around the area which winger Jamie Morris managed to riffle one home into the top right hand corner of the net. The Crows could have scored more but will take the result which see's them face St Margaretsbury Reserves in the final on a date to be announced.

20 March ‘09’ – Crows show outstanding performance

The disappointing display of Tuesday night is long in the memory after Royston Town progressed in the South Midlands Senior Floodlit Cup first round after seeing off Ryman League Division One North side Cheshunt FC. The Crows let Cheshunt know they were in a game right from the start with Tom Malins and Carl Edwards in the middle of the park moving the ball around quickly and cleverly. Once again the attacking force was on top form with wingers Ricky Young and Luke Robins always in support of Ryan Lockett and Craig Hammond. After the Royston players started to relax and get into the game they put together some nice attacking play but just couldn’t hit the target. The returning keeper Damian Williamson was never troubled with centre back partnership of Lewis Endacott and Mike Debnam easily handling the Cheshunt forward players. After forcing lots of corners in the first half Royston finally got the first goal on the 38th minute when the ball was knocked up into the air on the 6 yard line with Craig Hammond finishing with a spectacular bicycle kick. Endacott had to be replaced at half time due to injury with David Cain replacing him giving his usual solid display. The Crows started the second half with a real meaning and purpose and after just 6 minutes of play Edwards finished a Robins cross from 6 yards. A down and out Cheshunt started to get overrun by the shear pace of the Royston attack as the Crows had efforts blocked and well saved by the keeper. Hammond put the game to bed after finishing off another fantastic move from midfield. A spectacular performance in front of an appreciative Garden Walk crowd.

18 March '09' - Babbage rescues point for Crows

A lack lustre performance from the Crows saw them narrowly escape with a point last night away at Amersham. The Crows went 1-0 down in the second half and escaped with a point after defender Jamie Babbage scored minutes from the end. The reserve side enjoyed a 4-2 win at Garden Walk over The 61FC with goals from Dan Charles, Dan Scott and two from Jamie Morris.

15 March '09' - Ladies pleased with point

Royston Towns Ladies side became the first team to score a goal against Braintree Town this season. The Crows took the lead early on at Garden Walk but couldn’t hold out till half time with Braintree finding the equaliser. No goals in the second half but Royston’s back line was solid and the work rate was very good from the whole team. A very pleasing result for manager Kevin Foulger.

15 March '09' - Reserves see off determined opposition

The Reserve Team travelled to Luton based Kent Athletic yesterday looking to increase their lead at the top of the league. Kent signed five players on the day just so they could play against the leagues hot shots who have scored 83 goals in 15 matches. The new faces at Kent showed a lot of resilience against the Crows second string who took the lead through Dave McMurrough who bundled the ball home. Unfortunately McMurrough didn’t last much longer after his goal after a bad fall which dislocated his shoulder. Manager Kevin Wilson brought on Chris Geldhart to replace him and changed the formation to 4-3-3 to try and create more of an attacking threat. In the second half nothing really went for the Crows with Kent’s backline holding strong and a ball cleared off the line which some will argue crossed over. With just over five minutes to go Graham Tibbals sealed the points when he fired home from close distance. The final score was 2-0 with not one of the best performances this season but the 3 points gained never the less. The A side held on to top spot in The Hertford and District League Division One with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Elizabeth Allen Old Boys Reserves at Garden Walk.

13 March '09' - Town come from behind to claim victory

Winslow United made Royston Town work hard for their 3-1 victory last night after they took an unexpected lead. The prolific Craig Hammond drew the Crows level with a controversial penalty that had to be taken three times. The first effort from Hammond was saved but a Winslow player infringed the penalty are so it had to be retaken. Hammond slotted home the second time but the referee again wasn't happy as a player from both sides encroached. On the third attempt Hammond again scored and this time it stood. The Crows pressed for the second with Jamie Morris looking deadly down the left flank and Ricky Young again with another inteligent performance. it took just 5 minutes after the restart for Hammond to fire the Crows in front and minutes after to get his hatrick from a tight angel. Danny Payne performed well in midfield and Luke Robins was brought on in the later stages to at some more fire to the attack. The final score was a pleasing 3-1 at the end with the Crows wasting some very good opportunities.

11 March '09' - First Team and Reserve Team both win 3-0

Another good performance from Royston Town saw them gain 3 more valuable points away from home against Ampthill Town. Luke Robins put the Crows one up on 18 minutes with defender Jamie Babbage doubling the lead on 25 minutes. In the second half the Crows continued to attack with Ryan Lockett hitting the bar from a free kick. Craig Hammond got Royston’s third when he found himself with a free header in the 6 yard box. The Reserve Team played host to third placed Hadley and showed them just why they are top of the league. The scoreline ended 3-0 with Graham Tibbals scoring twice and Mark Saunders getting the third. Speak to anyone who saw this game and they will tell you the score line could have been much, much more.

8 March '09' - Hammond helps bag 3 more points

Striker Craig Hammond helped the Crows bag another 3 points scoring four goals in the 5-2 victory at New Bradwell St Peter. Hammond netted his in the 20th minute of the first half. The Crows took the lead into half time with Hammond adding another 10 minutes after the break. Substitute Ricky Young then made it 3-0. The Crows conceded a penalty which New Bradwell converted and then gave Royston a scare moments after when Jorden Gibson pulled off a great save to deny New Bradwell a second. Hammond completed his hatrick with a goal in the 80th minute and then a minute later got his forth from a header. New Bradwell pulled another goal back late on but it was too little too late. The Reserves won there top of the table clash at home to Biggleswade Town Reserves with a convincing 5-1 win.

5 March ‘09’ - Reserves return to the top

Kevin Wilson's Reserve side returned to the top of the SSMFL Reserve Division Two East last night with a 6-0 away win at Sawbridgeworth Town Reserves. In the other Division One cup semi final Ampthill Town beat Crawley Green 2-1.

4 March '09' - Malins leads the way to Cup Final

A man of the match performance from Tom Malins inspired the Crows to their first cup final since 2005. On an abysmal evening with strong winds and constant rain the Crows faced King Langley at home in the semi final of the division one cup. Manager Paul Attfield decided to rotate his squad around for this cup match with Craig Hammond being rested for league action and Lewis Endacott dropping to the bench with Jan Stephens returning to First Team action along with Danny Payne making a start with Richard Barlow in goal.  The game as a whole wasn’t much of a spectacle with both teams occupying the top two places in the league cancelling each other out. Royston took the lead in first half injury time when the Crows were a warded a free kick twenty five yards out from goal. Tom Malins stepped up to take it curling the ball over the wall and right into the top corner clipping the post on the way in giving the keeper no chance. The second half was much the same story with both teams cancelling each other out, but the Crows got their second when the keeper could only parry a shot at the feet of Danny Payne who only had to slot the ball home from 6 yards. The Crows will now play either Crawley Green or Ampthill Town in the final, both teams face each other tonight in the second semi final.

1 March ‘09’ – Crows show extra class

Royston Town showed exactly why they are top of the league this Saturday when Hatfield Town came to Garden Walk. With the biggest crowd of the season 139 the crows saw off their promotion rivals. Royston were on top for the majority of the first half with Ricky Young working hard down the right flank playing neet and tidy football. Craig Hammond had the best chance of the first half when he rose above defender and keeper to head the ball on to the bar and out. In the second half Royston stole the show keeping position for long periods of time and really pressing the Hatfield defence into making a mistake. It was from a Young cross that a Hatfield defender could only slice high and straight up into the air on the 6 yard line. With the keeper not claiming the ball Hammond eventually headed home to give Royston the lead. Hammond scored his 40th goal of the season in all competitions when he ran through and chipped the ball over the advancing keeper with a real classy finish. For the remainder of the game Royston kept pushing for a third but Hammond, Young and Ryan Lockett all squandered chances. Pictures of the match are available from www.ssmfl.org.

27 February ‘09’ - Crow look to beat Hatfield for the third time

Royston Town will be looking for a third win over Hatfield Town this season after knocking them out of the division one cup 3-2 and winning comfortably in the league 4-0. The Crows will be looking to bounce back from midweek’s match away at Tokyngton Manor were they lost there 100% unbeaten away record.

25 February '09' - Crows disappoint

Royston Town suffered only their second defeat of the season last night away at Tokyngton Manor. Paul Attfield’s side’s preparations were hindered as Keeper Jorden Gibson and defenders David Cain and Jamie Babbage all travelling in the same car were having trouble finding the ground and only arrived 10 minutes before kick off which was delayed 15 minutes from 7:45pm to 8:00pm. Gibson started the match in goal with Lewis Endacott and Craig Hammond starting as centre backs. Manor started the game with a game plan to defend with their centre forwards pressing the ball forcing mistakes. That is exactly what happened for Manor to take a 2-0 lead before half time with Cain coming on as a substitute just after the half hour mark. With Hammond returning to the front line in the second half he pulled a goal back from the spot after a foul on Ricky Young on 65 minutes. Despite the Crows best efforts they just couldn’t find a way through Manors defensive line that stood strong and disciplined all night long. The final score was 2-1 with Manor fully deserving the win, but their players showed a lack of maturity and respect to the Royston players after the game when directing a haul of foul and abusive language towards the Royston players when returning to the dressing rooms after their warm down. The Crows will have to improve if they are to stand any chance of a result at home to Hatfield Town this weekend.

31 January '09' - Crows win 6-1 away at SLB

The Crows kept up their 100% winning record on the road by recording a 6-1 victory over Sport London e Benfica. With Ryan Lockett unavailable and Luke Robins back on the injury list Paul Attfield set his team up in a 4-5-1 formation so the ball could be played wide into the better areas of a soft, boggy pitch. The Crows took the lead from a set peace delivered in by Matt Pring and headed home at the back post by Tom Malins. Craig Hammond who had the tough job of being the lone striker doubled the lead in first half injury time. Hammond's hard work was again rewarded when he scored the third not long after the restart. Malins got his second when his shot from 18 yards took a deflection away from the SLB keeper into the net. SLB capitalized on sloppiness from the Royston defence to pull one back, but this only proved to be a consolation. Hammond completed his hatrick with a superb finish over the keepers head from 20 yards. Matt Pring got his first goal for the club in the 85th minute to round of a good day in the office for Paul Attfield’s side.

28 January '09' - Lockett inspires cup win

Striker Ryan Lockett inspired the Crows comeback last night in the East Anglian Cup First Round against Stansted. The Crows were trailing 1-0 entering the last eleven minutes of the match. Keeper Jorden Gibson who was called upon to fill the gloves as Damion Williamson injured him self in the warm up could do nothing to prevent the Crows going behind 1-0 in the second half after a penalty was awarded for hand ball in the area. Lockett got the equalising goal on the 79th minute after some need build up play with Lockett making the most of a shooting opportunity. Luke Robins put the Crows 2-1 up in the 84th minute when he headed home substitute Ricky Young’s cross. Lockett put the game beyond all doubt in the 4th minute of stoppage time when substitute Scott Crosk ran the ball down the left wing and cut the ball back for home to slot home the third.

25 January '09' - Lucky 13 for Crows

Royston Town recorded what is thought to be a club record win of 13-0 over opponents Brache Sparta yesterday. The Crows were 3-0 up at half time with an own goal, a Ricky Young strike and a Carl Edwards side foot into the bottom corner. In the second half the Crows were well in control scoring 10, 4 of which were in the last five minutes. The goalscorers were Craig Hammond (2), Ryan Lockett (4), Ricky Young (4), OG (1), Luke Robins (1) and Carl Edwards (1). Elsewhere the Reserve Team match at Cuffly in the Herts Intermediate Cup Quarter Final was postponed and the A side lost 4-0 to Broxbourne Badgers.

17 January '09' - Crows seal 2-1 victory at home to Tokyngton Manor

Royston Town find themselves 5 points clear with three games in hand over their nearest rivals Kings Langley. Tokyngton Manor visited Garden Walk albeit belated due to problems on the A505, with kick off being postponed by 15 minutes. The game started of well for the Crows with the backline holding strong and the midfield stroking the ball around nicely on a difficult pitch. Matt Pring made his league debut on the left wing with Arron Welch and Carl Edwards both returning to the centre of the park. Royston had to play a more direct approach up to the front men Craig Hammond and Ryan Lockett. It was Hammond who broke the deadlock on the 35th minute when he latched on to a ball over the top and lofted the ball over the keeper. In the second half Ryan Lockett doubled the lead on the 63rd minute when he struck a low angled drive under the keeper. Tokyngton did cause some problems when they pulled a goal back on 71 minutes and left the Crows hanging on for their win and a valuable three points.

4 January '09' - First Team match at Winslow postponed

Yesterdays match at Winslow United was called off at 2o'clock after the match referee decided the pitch was frozen and not playable. This decision was made with the Royston squad standing pitch side who had travelled at least an hour to get to the ground and quite rightly there were some unhappy faces. The under 16 match at Garden Walk was also called off due to a frozen pitch.
