Bushey Rangers

A seven goal first half salvo blew away Rangers and put Royston in the second round of the Herts County Cup at Garden Walk on Sunday. There was no hint of what was to come when Bushey carved their way through a static Town defence in the first few minutes and only brave keeping from Amy Walker prevented then taking the lead. That was Walker’s first and last action of the half as Town mounted a series of quick passing moves which saw both Jodie Scott and Emma Chaffey squander chances to take the lead.

On 15 minutes the dam gates opened as Scott made amends and scored twice in quick succession with a third being added by Sharon Pinner from close range.

Heroics by the visitors keeper managed to stem the flow before Marie Miller scored her first of the season and then Wendy Webster capitalised in a defensive mix-up to score her first goal for the Club. Two strikes from Chaffey completed the first half scoring.

In the second period Royston started from where they had left off and within 3 minutes Clare Draper scored with a great shot from just outside of the box. Thereafter Town found it difficult to maintain the momentum and with Bushey playing with greater organisation and spirit there was no further scoring. In the next round Royston have been drawn away to National Women’s League, Watford Town – which should prove to be a bit more of a test than Sunday’s visitors.
