Crows MoM  Brathwaite

Despite a much improved performance from Saturday’s lacklustre showing, the Crows returned from Top Field pointless.

The Crows made a bright start and should have taken an early lead when Jack Vasey broke free down the right flank and squared for James Potton but his shot failed to work the Hitchin keeper. The game continued at a furious pace with both sides probing for the opening and the yellows of Hitchin thought they had taken the lead when Dan Webb headed into the path of Liam Brookes to tap home but the Assistant had already flagged for offside. The Crows best chance came shortly after when good work by Josh Castiglione saw a flighted ball land in front of Ryan Ingrey but  the strikers diving  header  lacked the power to beat Johnson in the Hitchin goal. With scorching sun and searing temperatures the pace was always likely to drop but as the game drifted to the break a simple long ball caught the Crows defence napping and Callum Donnelly ran clean through to slide the ball past a helpless Welch to open the scoring.

Half Time Hitchin 1 Royston 0

No changes at half time but with instructions to up the tempo the Crows started the half well and took the game to their opponents but apart from a clever corner routine that saw Potton blast over they still created very little in front of goal. Changes were made by both teams, the Crows freshened up their attacking options with Marriott, Powell and Orlando-Young coming on whilst the Canaries changed tactics to protect what they had hoping to catch Royston on the break. Although the away side continued to dominate, resolute defending kept them at bay and the home side held on for their first league win of the season.
