A dour battle, in which both teams largely cancelled each other out, always looked likely to be settled by one goal, and it was Kings Langley who ultimately found it to claim all 3 points.

The first half was pretty much a non-event as both teams battled for midfield supremacy on a tricky surface. Neither side were ultimately able to gain any sort of control, with the end result being little, if any attacking threat being offered as both goalkeepers enjoyed trouble free halves.

Playing with the wind in the second half the Crows started with more intent, as Jorell Johnson somehow managed to divert a Jamie Gray cross over his own bar. From the resulting corner Gus Scott-Morriss’ delivery was met by a thumping header from Adam Murray that only just cleared the crossbar.

This ultimately proved to be a bit of a false dawn though, as despite attaining more of the possession Royston lacked any cutting edge. This was partly attributable to a well-disciplined home defence, who defended their area very well, forcing Royston to play sideways as soon as they got into threatening positions. For Royston’s part they lacked any real width and never really stretched the home defence to try and pull them out of position.

The all-important goal arrived in the 79th minute, as Claudio Ofosu raced onto a good ball down the left hand side channel. Cutting back inside, he delivered a deep cross to the back post, where Kieran Turner was on hand to apply the finishing touch, to the delight of the small, but vocal home support behind the goal.

Royston continued to huff and puff without creating any clear cut chances. In the 90th minute, substitute Adam Marriott managed to find some space on the edge of the Kings Langley penalty area, but as quickly as he found it, full back Macsen Fraser, who was impressive throughout, epitomised the home side’s attitude and raced across to block the goal bound shot.
