A tight match was turned on its head in the 70th minute when visiting skipper Gary Bowles was sent off for a cynical foul on Josh Castiglione. The tackle looked to be the result of frustration at a free kick not having been awarded for a foul on defensive partner  Ross Carmichael, as he prevented Harry Darling from scoring. As a result Dorchester were left to defend a free kick without both centre halves and Royston fully capitalised, as Gus Scott-Morriss’ well flighted delivery was met emphatically by the head of substitute Josh Oyinsan to put Royston 2-1 in front.

Shortly afterwards Oyinsan made the game safe for the home side as Castiglione pounced on a poor clearance from the away team keeper to race to the byline before standing up a cross for Oyinsan to score his second headed goal.

By now Royston were rampant as Oyinsan, Scott-Morris’s and Castiglione all missed chances to make the win more comprehensive.

Whilst the game was 11 v 11 the match was evenly poised, as both teams played some good football. Dorchester had started particularly brightly and Josh Tibbetts had to be alert to twice race from his line to foil away forwards. Dorchester deservedly took the lead in the 20th minute when Tom Blair collected the ball on the edge of the area and placed the ball past Tibbetts.

Royston’s equaliser came on the stroke of half time as James Potton fired home following a good Crows move involving, Castiglione, Lee Chappell and John Frendo.

However this even contest ultimately went Royston’s way as Bowles’ moment of rashness cost Dorchester a share of the spoils.
