Match | Cheshunt v Royston Town |
Competition | Eastern Junior Alliance : Beds Division |
Result | Won 3-0 |
Royston Scorers | Bond (2), Robinson |
Royston were the visitors as they faced Cheshunt FC at ‘The Stadium’ in their return to league action.
Royston needed to bounce back after a poor display and heavy defeat the previous week. With captain Marvin Luzinda returning at the heart of defence with Jahmel Mullins, Ben Robinson and Josh Arnold they gave strong protection to goalkeeper Harry Williams.
Royston started really well and with a number of chances should have found themselves 2-0 up within 10 minutes. Both wide players Jordan Richardson and George Duffin were instrumental in feeding Jordan Spencer and Daniel Bond with quality balls only to find the goalkeeper making 3 decent saves.
It was Spencer who was key to the first goal as his one touch play with Duffin down the right wing led to a square ball for Bond to finish from 6 yards.
Royston continued to press for another goal and a quick free kick from Richardson only found the home keeper alert to save, Cheshunt could have equalised as a long range effort went just over. The young Crows pressed in search of a 2nd with some fine play which had no end product – they could have seen themselves 5-0 up by half time.
Half Time 0-1
Royston continued where they left off and Luke Reed and Shane Carthy’s persistent work rate and quality carried on trying to force errors in the centre of the park, with Cheshunt still in the game they went searching for an equaliser however strong defending thwarted any real chances.
Royston’s second came with Carthy’s ball over the top for Spencer to control and lay off for Bond to power home. With the introduction of Matt Hodgson it gave Ben Robinson the opportunity to show his versatility and move to the left wing and he added the 3rd after a through ball from Spencer saw him calmly slot the ball past the helpless keeper.
Team: Williams, Robinson, Luzinda(c), Mullings, Arnold, Duffin, Reed, Carthy, Richardson (Hogdeson), Bond, J.Spencer
Full time 0-3
Manager Jorden Gibson commented after the game: “There are many positives to take from this game, our work ethic was unquestionable today and we showed great composure in our build up play, Jordan Spencer showed great ability with the ball at his feet and linked up well with his team-mates, Marv and Jahmel showed a good understanding at the back. I could mention & praise every single player, but this game is over and we now have a big midweek game to look forward to and must concentrate and continue where we just finished”.
