Despite a strong finish Royston were unable to salvage anything from a tightly fought game as Quorn claimed the 3 points from their first visit to Garden Walk.
Having beaten The Reds earlier in the season the home side were looking to do the double but soon found themselves behind. The away team had already had 2 close efforts with Zak Goodson shooting narrowly wide, before he fizzed a ball across the goal that Finn O’Coyle couldn’t apply the finishing touch to. Their next effort bought about the first goal, as the away side played through the heart of the Royston defence before O’Coyle rounded Louis Chadwick before composing himself and finishing from a tight angle.
The Crows responded well and looked dangerous going forward with the best chance seeing a well struck shot from Thomas Avgoustidis expertly tipped over by Adam Harrison.
The game clinching second goal arrived in the 57th minute as another good move from Quorn cut Royston apart with the ball ending up with Goodson who confidently finished from 12 yards.
A raft of substitutions followed and this seemed to galvanise the home side as they grew into the game and gained the upper hand without troubling Harrison as Quorn dropped deeper. Their persistence payed off as substitute John Shamalo was bought down in the box and Joe Iaciafano confidently finished to give the Crows a lifeline in the 89th minute.
Royston nearly grabbed a point as Avgoustidis got to the byeline and crossed for skipper Adam Murray who was unable to direct his header below the bar leaving the home side falling just short.
