Royston’s FA Cup hopes came crashing to an end as they were outclassed by Step 2 side Kings Lynn Town as they cruised to a 5-1 victory.
The game was over as a contest in the first 11 minutes as 2 early goals put The Linnets in control. There was just 5 minutes on the clock when Joseph Nyahwema waltzed past 3 challenges before squaring for Michael Gyasi to finish from close range. Their second arrived 6 minutes later as poor defending again ended with Morgan Williams finishing from just inside the box, although Crows keeper Jamie Head will feel he should have done better.
The away sides crisp passing was keeping them in complete control as The Crows were unable to assert themselves and it was no surprise when the third goal arrived in the 37th minute. The home side gave up possession in midfield and the ball was played into Gyasi who held up the ball well before squaring for Nyahwema who finished high into the net.
The second half continued in the same vein and a quick fire double from Ross Crane took the game completely away from the home side. In the 55th minute a great bit of skill on the edge of the box created the shooting chance that Crane calmly slotted into the corner, before 5 minutes later he passed another shot beyond Reuben Rabstein who had earlier replaced Head in the Royston goal.
The Crows kept battling until the end and scored a late penalty after Adam Murray was needlessly thrown to the ground in an off the ball incident. Substitute Tom Newman stepped up and scored, but it was no more than a consolation goal as Kings Lynn progressed through to the next round.
