Royston Town Youth Colts u13 recorded their second win on the bounce with a fine flowing performance against fellow League 2 strugglers Potton Colts u13.

Potton started very brightly and from a huge throw in, the Town defence allowed the ball to bounce and was prodded into the back of the net by a grateful if not surprised Potton forward. Town were finding it hard to get into their stride when a long through ball was latched onto by a very fast Potton Striker who sent a low fizzing shot pass the town goalkeeper Jack Young to make it 2-0. This was the wake up call Town needed and after good defensive work by Captain Josh Toovey and a scintillating run and cross by

Cameron Smith Town went very close to opening their account. However they didn’t need to wait much longer when a excellent through ball by Jordan Howe allowed Man of the Match Scott Batchelor to run on and chip the visiting keeper from 12 yards. It was now all Town and they equalised a few minutes later when a Batchelor shot took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net. With Town pushing for another Potton sent a high kick over the defence and although Young saved the first shot he was powerless to get to the rebound and Town found themselves going into halftime 3-2 behind. The second half started with Town slow out of the blocks again and could have conceded again if it wasn’t for the good tackling and blocking of Tom Grimshaw and Troy Mayo in the Town’s defence. Town then began to ‘click’ and another fine through ball found Batchelor free to run onto the ball and again chip the ‘Keeper from 12 yards for his second hat-trick of the season. Tom McGlynn playing in the holding midfield roll was beginning to show his class and his efforts were rewarded when the ball broke to him at the edge of the box and he fired home for his first goal for the club. Potton were restricted to a couple of break away efforts but it was with one of them that they scored after a rare mix up in defence. This however made Town more determined and after a great corner by Howe, Bradley Calvert grabbed himself a goal after a scramble in the box. Batchelor got his 4th with a fine shot from just outside the box. Potton scored again, this time when a corner wasn’t defended and their forward had time to take a touch a guide it into the net. But, Town wasn’t finished and they added their 7th of the game through George Way when hit an unstoppable shot with his left foot into the top of the net. There was time for one more goal this time after a great run by the ever impressive Smith passed to Howe who sent a looping pass over the visitors defence for Batchelor to claim his 5th and Town’s 8th of the game.
