A “Self Destruct” Match

A really tough blog to write tonight but not ducking out of the job of reporting our “Self Destruct” match in which we all let ourselves down.

Barton a good team but will probably never have a game that the opposition (us) gifted them so many opportunities in one match.

Other than Ingers who was injured and a tired Kaan Fehmi we went into the game with the same shape as previously played in our win at Uxbridge.

Pretty much straightaway though we presented Barton with an opportunity from Spyros Mentis trying a “Wonder pass” across his own area. It being cut out and 1-0 down inside 6 mins.

Heads went down far too quickly and we then compounded this early mistake by not clearing a long throw into our box! 2-0. A mountain to climb but loads of time to rescue a terrible start.

A lapse in concentration by everyone from a throw resulted in Adam Murray upending their player resulting in a penalty which got dispatched efficiently. Now 3-0 down and big characters needed to get anything out of the game.

In fairness we rallied to get ourselves 2 back. Add a missed penalty and although probably undeserved we could have been level at 3-3

Our temporary comeback got halted quickly with yet again an avoidable goal, well taken by their lad but given far to much room to beat the unlucky Joe Welch from just inside our box. 4-2 at halftime

We made the decision to go with a 3 at the back to chase the match, knowing full well that we could be leaving ourselves open at the back but getting extra bodies forward to try to get us into the game.

We huffed and puffed but left ourselves vulnerable and in fairness to Barton they exploited their chances excellently.

With the game being effectively over Scott Bridges got our third.

6-3!

I hope the lads go away tonight devastated!

If we include the FA Cup tie that is 3 matches where we have conceded 14 goals!!

In the other 8 games we have conceded 2 goals!

As you can see the inconsistency is frightening.

I will continue to believe in this group of players. They have to deal with disappointment better. Stay together and move on. It’s a long season, eliminate the stupid errors and believe in one another.

We will be up there. The boys have the ability. We just need to find the consistency needed.

Hard to say at this time but boys keep going!!

Cheers,
SC
