Alan Barlow Honoured by FA for 50 Years of Service to the Crows

The Football Association (FA) has recognized Alan Barlow’s remarkable half-century of dedication to Royston Town Football Club with a prestigious long-service award. Since joining as a player in 1975, Alan  has held almost every significant role within the club, culminating in his current position as President, a role he’s held since 1997.

Barlow was pivotal in transforming Royston Town into an inclusive, FA-accredited community club, a status it first achieved in 2009. His vision also led to the establishment of the women’s first team in 1997, a program that, despite initial hurdles, has blossomed into a highly successful venture. Under his guidance, the club has expanded significantly, now boasting over 700 youth players and 120 adult players.

His commitment has extended to numerous crucial infrastructure improvements at Garden Walk, including the installation of floodlights and multiple spectator stands. In 2018, he was instrumental in creating and implementing the RTFC community program, which now employs four full-time staff working with local schools. Beyond his hands-on contributions, Alan also authored “The History of RTFC: 1875-2012,” meticulously documenting the club’s rich heritage.

“Alan Barlow is a person of great integrity with a clear purpose who loves RTFC and the Royston community,” said Terry Graves, a trustee of the Crows. “He is fondly known as Mr. Royston Town, and his impact on our club and community cannot be overstated.”

Well done Alan!
