Reserve Lads Stepped Up Well

Our positive run continues. This time in the Herts Senior Cup where I chose to make a few changes due to our busy schedule both before and after this particular match.

Several lads that have played the majority of the season in the reserves stepped up and generally did Ada proud. Obviously showing slight signs of nerves but all in all they all did themself no harm in reaching first team status.

The game itself was to start a free scoring affair with us going ahead with what could have been our first real attack, then Berkhamsted replied more or less straight away to equalise. 10-15 minutes went by and to be honest the hosts were on top of us (and by the way a good solid opposition they were!!) when Adam Marriott excellently dispatched a free kick from outside the box to once again put us up by one.

Berkhamsted did not throw in the towel, far from it, they pushed and gave our very young defence problems aplenty. Both Ada and myself were very happy to get the lads in for half time and with a few new instructions and tactics we set about keeping the lead and hopefully building on it.

The match was certainly not plain sailing. You could definitely see why “Berko” are leading their League and if it wasn’t for the tremendous display by Josh Tibbetts, they could well have got an equaliser. Not to be though and we had our own fair share of opportunities to increase the score line and that we did towards the end of the game.

Not a classic from our point of view but I was relieved we won and also got an opportunity to rest some and keep them fresh for the up coming campaign.

Dunstable next on Saturday, another team that aren’t having things their own way but knowing some of their players they will want to put one over us so we must expect a tough encounter.

Cheers,
SC
