Steve Castle on Marlow Game

Good afternoon.

What a good day was had by us yesterday!! A thoroughly well deserved win against a very good side in Marlow. We started like a house on fire and a third minute strike from Chris Watters put us ahead. We had a high tempo game plan and I believe we literally caught them cold!

In fairness to Marlow they came back at us and with plenty of pace in their team looked dangerous. Although sound defending kept us ahead. We possibly should have increased our advantage. I thought Kaan Fehmi was excellent. Just before half time the cross of the game was put into Marlow's penalty box by Jack Bradshaw, only to be met by a cool Craig Hammond finish to put us 2-0 up at half time.

Credit to our visitors they came out and competed and the second half was very even. Yet again a moment of quality by us, this time from Chris Watters left foot, crossing from the left ,to be met again by Craig and 3-0 it was.

Still Marlow came on to us and a foul just outside our area brought a free kick that was superbly taken from Marlow's left back making the score 3-1 which is how it stayed.

I felt the attitude of the lads was brilliant. We produced some good football, some resolute defending and limited a tough team to a solitary free kick goal which to be fair was a bit special!!

I have told my lads that please trust me with team selection! we now have several Saturday/Tuesday weeks coming up and I want to make sure that we keep as fresh as possible in every game. This goes slightly against my beliefs because I'm all for not changing a winning team but so far this season our games that we have lost have been on a Tuesday (Bedworth/Aylesbury) so I think to tweak some positions is needed. The lads need to see the bigger picture with this one! It's about us progressing as a squad! We will not get success by using 11 players.

We have a strong squad and now is time to utilise it to its fullest.

Cheers,

SC
