TOM’S WEEKEND PREVIEW – Oct 21st – 22nd

Hi and welcome to this weekend’s preview with Royston Town FC, Royston Town Women and Royston Town U23’s

First up is Royston Town Women FC as they travel to Needham Market Women in the Women’s FA Cup this Sunday.

Us and Needham Market Women both play in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League Premier Division and just like the last round it’s another league women’s FA Cup tie.

In the last round, we beat St Albans City Women 2-1 after going 1-0 down to former Royston Town Women footballer Becky Shepherd to put the Saints 1-0 up at halftime. We turned the game around with an Emma Slater penalty to even the score line before Laura Mills last-minute goal put the Crows through. Needham Market won 6-0 against Woodbridge Town Women.

Next up Royston Town FC host Halesowen Town in the league on Saturday which promises to be another tough fixture. This will be our third meeting between each other since 2019 when the Southern League Premier Central came into formation.

Last up is Royston Town U23’s as they have another away trip up to Northamptonshire to take on Raunds Town FC. A fact about their nickname the Shopmates is from the local boot and shoe industry where Northampton is known as the shoe-making industry town and why local professional football club Northampton Town are nicknamed the Cobblers.
