CROWS BLOG: ‘TWAS A GOOD DAY!

CROWS BLOG: ‘TWAS A GOOD DAY

Hi all,

Just a quick blog to touch base with you all and to briefly ‘drool’ over our superb display on Saturday.

Unfortunately on occasions, I have struggled to get across much positivity from that day’s proceedings but not this week.

All the boys involved on Saturday put a positive shift in. The football in my opinion was of a good standard and although we didn’t finally break the deadlock until late. The way the group went about the game was brilliant.

Yes, we did have a slice of luck to get us in the lead but after that, a very well-worked goal came about and at times it could and perhaps should have been more.

Although it was a great team performance I  do have to mention some individuals. First of all, James Brighton – as you all know Brights picked up a very nasty injury in only the second game of the season and it looked like he might miss the whole season. However, he has worked so hard to get himself back into contention. Saturday was probably a bit too early in his rehab to start the game but we took a calculated chance and basically he flew through it!

Next is Matt Bateman – 2 great goals to mark his ‘comeback’ into the starting line up and also a performance that shows he is back to his old self.

Also deserving of a mention is George Hoddle – our Scholar loan from Cambridge Utd. George is a lad that I’ve known all of his footballing life. I actually took his team along with my son in Bishops Stortford under 10’s to now. Hopefully, he can have a good experience at this non-league level and then push on to higher things!

Finally, My boy Charlie – He’ll kill me for mentioning this but even if it was any other lad coming out of the u18’s then I’d not be able to let it pass without commenting so why not him? Along with another U18 lad in Harry Forde,  they have been on the bench a couple of times now and I’ve managed to give them ‘a taste’ of First team football. Hopefully, this will only push them even more to gain regular first-team appearances.

So all in all Saturday was a good day! I could have mentioned any of the lads to be honest, but I  chose to pick out a few but a big well done to all!

And now our attention focuses on this coming Saturday when we face Alvechurch. Due to their excellent FA Cup run earlier on in the season we actually face them twice in 17 days! It’s sure to be another tough test and one that we will relish. It would be great if we could get another good crowd as I know the lads really appreciate and react to the larger crowds!

Cheers and see you Saturday!
