It   was another home league game this week against Manuden JFC and we were all keen to keep this  good run of results going. The weather was again windy but this week was also very cold. We had thirteen players available this week and Jack and Matt were both getting over knocks so we started them on the bench to ease them back in gently. The warm up was thorough and they were ready to go.

We started kicking uphill with the wind and we were looking for a strong and confident start.

Goal 1-0Mick ran on to a longish ball, gathered well and struck a firm shot that the keeper couldn’t quite hold.

Goal 2-0 – Good feet by Mick fed the ball wide left to the overlapping Keiran who buried it confidently.

Goal 3-0 – Persistent work by Matt and his pass found Jack who executed a great cool finish low in the left hand corner.

Goal 4-0 – Great defensive play by Brad and his pass found Keiran who set up Lewis to strike home.

Goal 5-0 – Foxy was fouled in the box and Rory strode up confidently out of goal to convert the penalty.

Half-Time 5-0. It was a very good first half performance from all of this strong squad and we asked the boys to try to keep playing football in the second half and to keep their concentration up especially at the back. Second half would be downhill but into the wind so we wanted the ball on the ground and the passes strong and accurate.

Goal 6-0 – More good work from the lively Keiran and his pass found Jack who in turn laid it off for Tommy T to hit the net.

Goal 7-0 – Great individual tricky run to get behind the defence and an accurate finish by Keiran.

Goal 8-0 – Strong dribble and cross by Mick for Jack to be in the right place at the right time to slot home his second.

Goal 9-0 – Quality movement and through pass from Mick found Callum who still had a lot to do. Callum took it on five yards and shot home low right for a well taken goal.

Goal 10-0 – Solid work by Jack found Foxy well and he worked hard to create his own shooting chance. Tom’s strength on the ball led to him finishing brilliantly under pressure.

Goal 10-1 – A great long shot by the Manuden player gave Rory no chance.

Goal 11-1 – Lewis did some good work up the left to send over a fine cross for Mick to connect to fiercely to bury the ball in the lobster pot.

Goal 11-2 – A lack of concentration by the Royston boys and Manuden got a well taken second.

Final score 11-2. The above summary of the goals underlines the good team effort that was put in today. It was great to see so many different scorers showing our strength in depth. This game was won by the boys listening to us and each other, playing good football in toughish conditions and taking their goal chances well.

Rory – Was concentrated all game. He made several good claims of 50/50 balls and his kicking was excellent. He took and scored the penalty with confidence and skill.

Brad – Another solid and fully committed performance from the ever improving Brad at full back.

Jamie P – JP makes it look easy, never shy in pushing forward and read the game brilliantly. Top match.

Jamie C – JC was a strong and powerful presence in the heart of the defence. Another 100% display.

Joe – Man of the Match Joe put in another of a series of faultless games – gets better and better in this difficult left back position. Brilliant all game.

Keiran – Oozes class and skill. Always creative and positionally excellent – scoring a few at the moment too.

Callum – A true captains game of leadership, determination, strength and power.

Foxy – Good strength and break up play in the centre midfield role, always supportive in the wide right position.

Tommy – Great work rate and effort all match, really good getting forward to back up the strikers.

Lewis – Quick feet and good speed finding some really good positions. Excellent outlet for the hard work of the rest of the team.

Mick – Skillful, strong and creative all game – when subbed he was prowling the touchline like a caged tiger. Another fantastic match as his decision making continues to improve.

Matt – Slotted into centre midfield quickly when he came on. Matt’s vision and creativity was second to none. Unlucky to have a well finished goal ruled out for offside.

Jack – Awesome weapon to have come on and terrorise the defenders with his pace and persistence. Scored two good well taken goals.

Well done everyone – keep it going.
