Haverhill Rovers Vets 1-3 Royston Town Vets
Royston Town Vets recorded a convincing 3-1 away win over Haverhill Rovers Vets in this Cambs F.A. Vets League 1 game played on an uneven surface at The New Croft.
Town Vets were again short of a few regulars suffering from injuries but the 'new look' line-up did the Vets proud with an outstanding performance against strong opposition.
The hosts took an early lead when 'keeper Paul Barnes saved a powerful shot only to see the ball rebound to another opposition forward whop slotted the ball home.
Town deservedly equalised before half-time when Stuart Snowden scored with a brilliant header from a John Moulding cross from the right wing.
In a closely-contested second half the game seemed to be heading for a draw but with 15 minutes left Andy Howard was upended in the penalty area and Snowden duly scored from the spot kick to give Town the lead. Paul Gibson then rounded off a fine all round team effort when he went on a mazy 30 yard run in which he beat four defenders and slotted home a fine solo goal.
Next Sunday The Vets are scheduled to travel to Hitchin Town Vets for a 2nd round game in the Herts Veterans Cup.
