The Crows soared to the top of the table after a comfortable 4-0 away victory on a wet and windy afternoon against a struggling Aylesbury United side that showed some spirit in the first half but were worn down by the relentless pressure from their opponents and the weather conditions against them in the second half.
An eager but dishevelled start to the match from the Crows saw their opponents equally untidy but an early deflected bar hitting free-kick from skipper Scott Bridges and a Ryan Frater power header over from the resultant corner set up the match as away team dominance and on 25 minutes a ball in from the right was called as handball by a defender and Jack Bradshaw struck home the awarded penalty. 0-1.
Two minutes later and it was two – a good footballing move led this time to a cross in from the left wing and a clever knock down by Simon Thomas found Ryan Towner on hand to finish with skill and accuracy. 0-2.
With a good two goal half time advantage secured against the worsening weather conditions by Royston increasing in confidence it was certainly an uphill task for the bedraggled home side and Steve Castle took the opportunity to rest a few players ready for the next game against Ware two days later. A half time substitution saw Ryan Towner replaced by Martel Powell.
The third goal absolutely secured the game on 54 minutes as Bridges picked up the ball just inside the Ducks half and with his opponents backing off he kept good control and surged forward on an impressive solo run and a last minute shimmy totally dummied Zaki Oualah in the home goal and he shot home easily. 0-3.
This triggered the final double team changes with Chris Watters giving way for Gus Scott-Morriss and Simon Thomas being changed for Reece Dobson.
The scoring was completed on 78 minutes, again by the buoyant Bridges who was set up centrally and drove forward and executed a perfect lob over Oualah to underline an emphatic win with a four goal deficit and a controlled performance by both centre-halves Ryan Frater and Tommy Hull to produce another well marshalled clean sheet. 0-4.
Again rival team’s score-lines seemed to go our way and we find ourselves top of the table with a game in hand and with potentially seven title winning, promotion securing, season defining cup finals remaining.
