Town Vets were soundly beaten by CUP in sweltering conditions in Cambridge on Sunday. As the hosts had only 8 men at the start three of Town’s squad (Paddy Coughlin, Paul Wenlock and Ian Allen) were asked to play for the opposition to make it an even game. As it turned out the guest players formed part of a team that looked more threatening throughout and Town produced another lacklustre display.
Football matches are often described as ‘a game of two halves’ but the decision to have two breaks to allow water to be consumed meant that it was ‘a game of three halves’ (of 30 minutes each). The different format did little to change Town’s fortunes as the hosts piled on the misery to run out 5-0 winners.
Hopefully a change to more seasonal weather conditions next Sunday will bring an improvement in the level of performance as Town Vets entertain Standon & Puckeridge at Garden Walk.
