Competition | Friendly |
Result | Won 2-0 |
Royston Scorers | Cambridge, Leete |
Town Vets ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over old rivals Cambridge in ideal playing conditions at Histon on Sunday.
Nick Humphreys supplied a string of excellent crosses from the left wing in the first half but Town were unable to take advantage of this supply route and it was a solo effort from debutant Ian Cambridge that gave Town the lead after 20 minutes. Town were then awarded a penalty when Jason Nash, making his first appearance of the season, was fouled in the penalty area and Peter Leete converted the resultant penalty kick.
Town should have added more goals in the remainder of the first half as a number of good chances were carved out but a combination of near misses and good ‘keeping prevented any addition to the score. At the other end Simon Dobson made one excellent save to deny the hosts a goal.
Good openings were created by both sides in an even second half but there were no further goals.
