Match Report: Cambridge Vets v Royston Town Vets

Date Sunday 13 October 2013
Match Cambridge Vets v Royston Town Vets
Competition Friendly
Result Lost 4-3
Royston Scorers Snowden, Flack, O.G.
Royston Town Vets were playing catch-up football throughout this game after a disastrous opening 15 minutes in which they conceded 3 goals. A gale-force wind and driving rain in their faces did not help matters but rank poor defending gifted opportunities to their hosts – although to be fair Cambridge Vets did take their chances with great skill.

Town gradually clawed their way back into the match, creating good openings for themselves and just before half-time got their due reward when Stuart Snowden (who was again impressive in midfield) hit an unstoppable shot to reduce the arrears.

Town competed well in the second half and continued to exert pressure on their hosts defence. This pressure paid off mid-way through the half when Cambridge conceded an own goal. Just as Town looked odds-on to find an equaliser, Cambridge scored from a break-away to extend their lead to 4-2.

Kevin Flack scored a rare goal for Town from close range to give Town a fighting chance again at 3-4 but despite a number of near misses and goal-line clearances Cambridge held out for the win.
