Royston Town continued their positive momentum and impressive unbeaten run with a solid away win over Chalfont St Peter – reversing the defeat suffered back in December – and coupled with some surprising, but advantageously poor results for the Crows’ main rivals, we climbed to second place with a game in hand on Kings Langley FC, putting our title winning fate back in our own hands.

On a bobbly pitch surface the first half was a cagey encounter of poor quality, illuminated with the one pure moment of sheer class that was skipper Scott Bridges’ perfectly struck goal from a nudged free kick on 41 minutes that soared and sped into the.mid left hand side of the net. 0-1.

The second half was certainly different as the Crows came out with a more definitive game plan and whilst the standard of football did not leap noticeably the visitors dominated from start to finish, not allowing the home side to settle and winning the midfield battle across the park and Ryan Ingrey, on as a first half sub for the injured Erkan Okay, was causing problems up the right hand side and following a surge and cut back in the 74th minute was adjudged to have been fouled and the returning Jack Bradshaw powered home the penalty to put the game beyond their visibly tiring hosts.

The only real downside on the day was watching Ingrey hobble off late on with what looked like an ankle injury – hopefully nothing too serious. The title dream is very much alive and kicking.

Team:  Yates, May, Watters, Bridges Scott, Frater, Bradshaw, Okay (Ingrey (Powell)), Towner, Hull, Thomas, Hoenes (Dobson).

Subs not used – McDevitt, Scott-Morriss.
