Match Report: Corinthians Res. v Royston Town Res.

Corinthians  2

Royston Town 3

Starting the game with a 3 goal advantage should have made this game easier than it turned out to be.

The home side with nothing to lose set about Royston with a tiger like attitude using both the slope of the pitch and the swirling wind to harass and terrorise their visitors.

Young goalkeeper OWEN SALLOWS added to his growing reputation with 2 fine saves but he could do nothing when on 20 minutes the lively Corinthian forward fired home after the Towns defence was caught square to give the home side some hope of an upset.

Town failed to get into any rhythm at all with only 1 meaningful effort in the 1st half on 37 minutes from MATTY CHAPMAN.

It was another verbal roasting at the interval that re-invigorated the Crows with PERRI GENTRY firing in a curling 20 yarder to level things.

The game was now all Royston with wave after wave of attack and it came as some surprise when the home side went in front against the run of play.

The Crows again dug deep and 3 subs were made in quick succession and this provided instant results when MITCH COOPER levelled the scores.

Young ADA CAMBRIDGE almost put his side in front but a fine save from the home-side keeper kept things level until the elusive MATTY CHAPMAN evaded his marker and finished at the far post after 1st class approach play from ADAM FLEMING.

Skipper Roberto Gwynne said after the game “ The boys know they started poorly and we will all be looking to address this side of our game as soon as possible.”
