The Crows breezed through this potentially tricky looking game at Hatfield Town on Tuesday evening without being anywhere near their best but some clinical finishing took Paul Attfield's side to the top of the table.

There was just one change to the starting team that had beaten Leverstock Green on Saturday with Carl Edwards replacing the injured Martin Standen and there was a return for Matt Standen on the bench after a lengthy suspended lay-off.

The opening period was uneventful with many misplaced passes and mistakes on a hard bobbly pitch but Royston always looked threatening when they got the ball in the final third.

With their first clear chance they took a 18th minute lead when Ryan Lockett outpaced the defence to slot under the keeper from 14 yards. Jack Bradshaw then headed Lockett's free kick over from eight yards and Lockett and Ricky Young both had one on one chances that were missed.

At the other end Will Norris made one superb block when a striker raced into the area but other than that his positioning and handling was assured throughout the game to help secure a second clean sheet in four days.

The Crows then hit Hatfield with two quick goals ten minutes before the break. First Rick Young smashed home a left footed strike into the top corner from a narrow angle and soon after Kaan Fehmi converted a penalty after a foul on Lewis Endacott.

With the game more than comfortable the second half was less intense but chances were still created. Tom Malins raced clear in the first minute but was denied by the keeper but minutes later Luke Robins met Lockett's corner at the near post and volleyed high into the net.

Worryingly both Ross Collins and Ryan Lockett left the pitch with bad injuried but Royston continued to look threatening when they could break forward.

Matt Standen was given the last 20 minutes and he struck goals five and six late on, against his former club, volleying home from 20 yards after Malins had an effort saved and reacting on a defensive mistake to lob the keeper from 16 yards.
