Town Vets gained revenge for a defeat earlier in the season when they ran out 4-3 winners against a powerful Hemingford side.

It was the hosts who were quickly into their slick passing game and they deservedly took the lead after 15 minutes although it was an unfortunate error by ‘keeper Simon Dobson that gave them the opening as he slipped over when running out to clear the loose ball and a Hemingford forward slotted into an empty goal.

Town soon equalised when a defender handled the ball in the 18 yard area and Peter Leete fired in the resultant penalty kick. On the half hour mark Hemingford took the lead again when Town’s defence failed to clear the ball and the Hemingford centre-forward pounced to make it 2-1. The same player beat the last Town defender in the six-yard area and slammed the ball past Dobson to extend Hemingford’s lead to 3-1.

Town made a statement at the start of the second half when Kevin Barthrop found Steve Starling with an excellent through ball and the striker making his debut for Town coolly slotted home to reduce the arrears to 2-3. Town were now dominating the game with the defence looking more secure and the midfield enjoying good possession and deservedly scored the equaliser as Leete headed in a Nick Humphreys cross.

Nejat Kocak replaced Starling with 20 minutes remaining and his pace and close control immediately started to cause the Hemingford defence problems. With 10 minutes left, Kocak latched onto a neat pass from Humphreys and was bearing down on the goal when he was upended by a Hemingford defender. Leete fired in the resultant penalty to give Town a winning 4-3 lead and complete yet another hat-trick.
