Competition | Spartan South Midlands League: Reserve Division One |
Result | Won 4-1 |
Royston Scorers | Cooper (2), Bates, Gwynne |
Man of Match | Danny Apostolos |
After a long weather induced lay off, the Town's 2nd string made the long trek to Holmer to get their league campaign back on track.
Ben Cooper was drafted in from the "A" side after late withdrawals and showed his potential with 2 goals.
Ever dependable Lee Bates added another goal to his ever increasing tally and fit again Rob Gwynne scored a cracking curler to mark his return.
The pitch was very heavy and although Bates opened the scoring Royston were not having things all their own way and Gibson had to be alert to keep his side in the game.
Cooper's pace was a constant source of goal threats and indeed Royston went to ahead when he raced clear of the back line and slotted past the home side's keeper.
Holmer pulled a goal back and took the game to Royston for long spells either side of 1/2 time.Meredith and Bitting worked hard in the midfield and combined with Gwynne for his wonder goal and cooper finished the contest converting a pin point Bates Cross.
Despite the scoreline Town's Man of the Match was defender Danny Apostolos who defended well and was a constant source of inspiration to his team.
