Royston Town Vets shared the points with Mount Pleasant Vets in a 2-2 draw in this Vets Invitation League Division 1 match at Little Wratting on Sunday.
The hosts took the lead mid-way through the first half but Town hit back when the Mount Pleasant ‘keeper palmed the ball into his own net from a long throw-in from Kevin Barthrop on the right touchline.
Nejat ‘Magic’ Kocak gave Town the lead before half time when he ran onto a pass from Peter Leete and rounded the ‘keeper to pass the ball into an empty goal.
The majority of the play after the interval was confined to the middle third but in a rare attack Kocak was unlucky to see his shot crash into the right hand goal post and rebound into play.
Mount Pleasant equalised with 10 minutes left which set up a frantic finale with both teams going for the win. Town thought they had taken the lead again when the ball appeared to cross the line but the match officials decided otherwise.
Town play Ridgeons at Garden Walk next Sunday in the last game in the Vets Invitation League 1.
Town progressed to the Final of the Vets Invitation K.O. Cup following an impressive 3-2 win over Cambridge University Press in last week’s Semi-Final.
