Town Vets remain unbeaten in the Cambs Veterans Invitation Cup following their hard-fought 3-3 draw against Mount Pleasant at Haverhill on Sunday.
After an even first 30 minutes the hosts took the lead when their centre-forward cut in from the right and fired in past 'keeper Simon Dobson. Adam Smith sent in an excellent cross into the box and when the home 'keeper failed to clear the ball Paul Lewis made no mistake with crisp left-foot shot to give Town a deserved equaliser.
Kicking up the slope in the second Town were put under pressure for the first 20 minutes and struggled to get into their opponents half of the pitch. During this spell the visitors caught Town defence square when a defensive clearance was headed on to a Mount Pleasant forward and he lobbed the advancing Dobson into an empty goal to give the hosts the lead again. Dobson then two pulled off two fine saves to prevent Town falling further behind.
Town then started to dominate the game and were awarded a penalty when Barthrop was tripped in the box. Lewis slotted home the resultant penalty kick to bring the scores level. Town then took the lead for the first time in the match when Carlo Silenti hit a right-foot screamer from 30 yards that found the top corner of the goal with the 'keeper well beaten. More chances were carved out by Town but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the hosts in the game.
In the final 5 minutes Geoff Pinner was harshly adjudged to have fouled his opponent in the box and Mount Pleasant scored a lucky equaliser from the penalty spot.
