Royston Scorers Revell, Hagger

Royston Town Vets kicked off the new season with a well-earned 2-0 win over new opponents Newmarket Town Vets in a sporting encounter played at Dullingham.

With holidays and injuries ruling out a number of regulars, Team Manager Graham Hagger introduced three new players to the squad – Andy Howard, Colin Saward and Paul Gibson.

In a closely fought and goal-less first half defences were on top although Magic and Adam Smith had good chances to open the scoring for Royston.

Central defender, Laurence Revell scored with a firm header from a right-wing corner to put Royston ahead mid-way through the second half. Graham Hagger then extended the lead with an unstoppable right foot shot into the top corner to seal the win.

The Vets return to action on Sunday 21st September when they entertain Hemingford at Garden Walk.
