Royston Town made the tricky London-bound midweek journey to North Greenford United who have had a tough season and are presently fighting for survival in this division with four matches – including tonight’s – to play.

With Royston’s competitive season effectively over Steve Castle stuck with the starting line-up that had made such hard work of the game on Saturday, possibly to see if they could combine together better both in performance and result.
The first forty minutes was a frantic, fragmented affair with the Crows' movement and passing being thwarted by dogged and determined defending and pacey Blues’ attempted, but often stymied, counter attacks.
Notable early efforts saw some off target shooting from Luke Robins and Reece Dobson as they were sometimes trying to bust the net when a little bit of finesse or one more set up pass may have been the better option. Not deterred, continued effort and perseverance won the day as a move in the 40th minute saw Dobson tee up the impressive Scott Bridges who finished with composed accuracy. Robins got the second three minutes later when he latched onto a quick free-kick and overcame desperate last ditch defending to slide home his second left footed effort.

Half Time – North Greenford Utd 0 – Royston Town 2.

The home side dug deep early in the second half to forge some half chances and George Lawton made a good stop from a grounded position after being pole-axed in a corner manoeuvre.

The game was put out of sight in the 63rd minute by the plundering Joe DeLaSalle who met a free-kick initially with his mid-drift and then followed up to power home. Straight away Carl Edwards replaced Robbie Nightingale and 8 minutes later Castle made his final changes with two strong performers, Jack Bradshaw and Gary Hart, taking well-earned rests with Robbie Mason and Ross Collins coming onto the field of play.

The forward momentum from Royston against a morale dented home side was relentless and the fourth goal came from Carl Edwards with ten minutes to go as he followed up a half saved Robins pile-driver to drill home from six yards and the scoring was completed with the goal of the game from striker Rob Mason whose direct run was finished with a superb curling left foot strike that found the top right hand corner at unstoppable pace.

Team: Lawton, Bradshaw (Collins), Dhillon, De La Salle, Wharton, Bridges, Hart (Mason), Nightingale (Edwards), Fehmi, Dobson, Robins.     Subs not used – Cambridge, Ingrey
