A determined and dogged home team performance from Potters Bar was enough to maintain Royston Town’s dismal start to the season. Within 4 minutes Ron Yates was picking the ball out the back of the net as a sharp run behind right full back Jack Bradshaw produced a cross and the lively all game Evandro Delgado finished easily.

Despite some stuttering referee decisions, Rhys Hoenes got the Crows back level when Ryan Ingrey was fouled and a good advantage was played and the speedy attacker rounded the Scholars’ keeper, Mike Underwood, to tap in.

This was about as good as it got for the visitors and despite the undoubted team desire to produce footballing moves to challenge the endeavour of their hosts the Crows came up woefully short in all departments.

Potters Bar restored their lead on 32 minutes with this time a probe up the right that was not dealt with and Charlie Nelson finished confidently and it was only the home side who looked like extending their lead up to half time.

With Underwood not having to make an on target save all game the shooting from well created positions caused all watching Royston eyes great concern. A decent hard working shift from Rob Mason came to an end on 60 minutes when he was replaced by Josh Castiglione and at the same time Conor Kilgallon was swapped for left back Lewis Donovan.

This injection of youth added impetus but the Scholars dealt with all the Crows had comfortably and any goal chances created were spurned wastefully.

The game was put well beyond the visitors when on 72 minutes the unlucky George Powell turned in a Joe Bennett cross for a team performance defining own goal.

It is far too early to press the crisis button but a total of one point out of a possible twelve is not the start this team, management or supporters were expecting and at the moment each match day opponent cannot believe their luck to be playing pre season promotion favourites Crows in such a poor run of form.

Team: Yates, Bradshaw, Donovan (Kilgallon), Powell, McDevitt, Bridges Stuart (Robins), Towner, Watters, Hoenes, Ingrey, Mason (Castiglione).

Subs not used – Hart, Ryan.
