Once again Royston showed their true grit and determination to not only take this tie into Extra time but to actually go on and win it.
Crawley Green showed a far stronger team than the one defeated by the Crows in early November and things looked very gloomy for the home side when Crawley took the lead inside the opening minute with the 1st attack on the Royston goal.

With the goal coming so quickly Royston had loads of time to get themselves back into the game and after constant attack did so from the boot of top scorer LEE BATES, who converted a PAUL KLEIN cross to level matters.

The home side looked most likely to add to their total but as so often happens,a long Crawley punt up field caught Royston unawares and RYAN CANNON could only watch in horror as his back pass held up on the heavy pitch for a Crawley forward to slot home past the unprotected DANIEL PLUMB.

It was a nervy Royston that started the 2nd half and they went behind even further when slack marking allowed Crawley to convert from a free kick.

With just under a 1/4 of an hour left,The Town looked out of the cup.Skipper John Bitting had other ideas and his somewhat fortunate strike from a corner reduced the deficit to just 1 goal.

BRADLEY WILKINSON was introduced with just 4 minutes of normal time remaining and he showed his worth by converting a slide rule pass from JAMES MEREDITH which sent the game into extra time.

The superior fitness of the Royston players began to tell as the game wore on and with just 3 minutes of the game left BRINSLEY BAILEY forced home a LEE BATES goal bound header to send his side through to the next round.

Bates was quick to praise the sides effort " We were just that bit fitter and wanted the game just that bit more" he added.
