High flying Town continued their fine start to the season with this high scoring win. With the 1st team not in action at the weekend, all eyes were on the Ressies and with the inclusion of RYAN LOCKETT leading the front line this was always going to be interesting.

Indeed LOCKETT opened the scoring after just 5 minutes when he threaded a low dive home after fine work from DANNY APOSTOLOS down the left hand flank. Far from producing a goal flood this lead seemed to dull Royston’s attacking spirit and the scores were soon level as 1st the home side gave the ball away in the dangerous midfield area and then didn’t react quick enough to regain possession and were duly punished.

Town regained the lead with another fine goal from the boot of CONOR DE LACY who converted a JOSH BRONTI through ball to give the home side a slender lead at the interval.

With BRONTI being withdrawn due to injury, this gave another chance to LEE BATES and the striker didn’t disappoint delivering a delightful finish to extend the home sides lead within 10 minutes of the restart.

Again HOLMER GREEN were handed a lifeline when some sloppy defending led to Royston conceding a penalty which was duly converted to bring the visitors back into the game.

This did seem to spur Royston on and in particular BATES who first pressed the ball, forcing an error for JON BITTING to open his account and then crossed the ball brilliantly for LOCKETT to add his 2nd and put the result beyond doubt. LOCKETT completed his hat-trick before being withdrawn and BATES rounded off the scoring with a typical fierce drive into the roof of Holmer’s net to complete the rout.
