Competition Spartan South Midlands League: Reserve Division One

Royston Scorers Matt Standen (3), S. Jackson, Bates, Bailey

On a bitter chilly night, the Crows went top of the league with this high scoring victory over a much fancied AFC Dunstable.

Royston gave debuts to MATT STANDEN and BRINSLEY BAILEY and with CARL EDWARDS coming into the line up looked very strong on paper.

Dunstable set their stall out early and dictated the open exchanges forcing the home side back at every opportunity but it was Royston who opened the scoring when HARRY ADCROFT played a smart pass into space on the flanks and skipper JOHN BITTING fired in a fierce cross for new boy STANDEN to head home.

This should have seen Royston into the interval but some careless defending allowed Dunstable to level the score right on half time.

Using the break, the home side reshuffled the pack with the introduction of GWYNNE on the left hand side and came out with the more familiar 4-4-2 and instantly put the opposition under attack with first STANDEN scoring his second after rounding the keeper to finish from a tight angle and then defender STU JACKSON making it 3-1, heading home a BITTING free kick.

LEE BATES added his customery goal before the ressies dropped off and allowed Dunstable to pull 2 goals back.

MATT STANDEN showed his desire to win racing clear to complete his hat rick and fellow debut boy BRINSLEY BAILEY completed the rout with a spectacular chipped finish coming in from the right.

Royston now go top of their league.
