Match | Royston Town Reserves v Chalfont St Peter Reserves |
Competition | Suburban League Challenge Cup, First Round, First Leg |
Result | Won 2-1 |
Royston Scorers | Mullings, G. Jackson |
Royston achieved their biggest result of this fledgling season with a hard fought win over their lofty opponents at home on Saturday.
Reverting to a more familiar line up, Town had the best of starts when DEJON MULLINGS caught the Chalfont defence asleep and scored after just ten minutes.
In all fairness, Royston then had to defend like lions for the rest of the half with young 'keeper HARRY WILLIAMS keeping his side in the game with a list of strong saves, none more so than a fine double stop from a penalty kick and the rebounded effort.
Chalfont started the second period determined to level the scores and were rewarded for their efforts fifteen minutes in, bundling the ball over the line.
Royston stuck to their game plan and an early contender for goal of the season from GREGG JACKSON saw Town finish the game as deserved winners.
Skipper Gregg Jackson commented "We played some good football today against a side a division above us. We are aware that it's only the first leg but we will go to Chalfont and give it our best".
