Royston Town Reserves  3-3  Corinthian-Casuals Reserves

 

Royston had to really dig deep to protect their 100% unbeaten record on Saturday.

Falling behind to their visitors with just two minutes on the clock meant that this was always going to be an uphill struggle, however normal service looked to have resumed when De La Salle smashed home a spot kick after Castiliogne was up-ended by a hapless defender’s trailing leg and then Castiliogne scored from an acute angle to restore the home side to a position they have come to expect.

Indeed this expectation could go some way into explaining the events that followed to allow Corinthians back into the game.

Some lacklustre play in the midfield led to Corinthians barging into the Royston box and clumsy panic ridden tackle brought about a Corinthian penalty which was duly despatched, although Mason Tewksbury got a slight hand to the ball.

The home side went further behind when a corner was conceded, again needlessly and as the ball bobbled in the Royston box an attempted clearance rebounded of a visiting played into the home goal.

The message at the break was more speed and less rush and the players responded well.

Royston seemed to lack that little bit of quality that has been at the forefront of their game and a combination of poor final balls and bad finishing along with some bizarre decisions looked as if a defeat was the only outcome of the game.

What Royston lacked in quality they made up for in spirit and with almost the final kick of the game Matt Chapman reacted sharpest nudging the ball home for a 3 all draw.
