The Crows second string started the new season with an opening day defeat against Tonbridge at Garden Walk on Saturday.

Playing their first game in the Premier Division, the home side started vibrantly and dominated the opening exchanges and came closest to scoring mid-way through the 1st half when new signing JOEL SUBIBULA saw his effort bounce back of the post with Tonbridge's keeper well beaten.

A host of chances went begging for Royston as the half petered out.

The second period saw a similar pattern to the first as time and time again the home side failed to take the chance to open the scoring and ultimately paid the price when on a rare attack Tonbridge took the lead.

This goal proved to be decisive, handing incoming manager ADRIAN CAMBRIDGE an unwelcome and undeserved defeat.

Cambridge said after the game "we saw how not taking chances can cost a side today, that is the difference in the league standards. However we can take positives from the game. CONOR KILLGALLON and REECE KING showed good signs of settling in early and the team showed they can create chances. We will go forward as a team and learn from this defeat".
