A very much experimental Royston side went out of League Cup to second division Bletchley Town on Tuesday. A number of the club's young reserve side were given first team debuts, players requiring match minutes from the current first team squad and 16 year old youth team goalkeeper Owen Bentley were given opportunities.

Bletchley made a decent fist of the game and Royston looked a bit disjointed in the first half and struggled in possession of the ball. This put the visitors in good control of the first half and but for the intervention of Owen Bentley's fine first half performance could have been more than a 22nd minute goal behind at half time.

Carl Edwards and Jason Beck were both introduced on 60 minutes in a half that Royston largely gained control of in the opening stages. Dalton O'Brien equalised after a neat move and Beck headed his side into a lead with a far post header and was unlucky to see the keeper superbly keep out another header from close range.

Inexpicably Royston were undone by some very poor defending and a close range volley on 89 minutes and a free kick three minutes into added time completely turned the tie on it's head and left the hosts no time to recover the situation.
