Royston's second game in 24 hours and a still lengthy injury list has made this a difficult week. Royston progressed at the expence of Ridgeons Division One League opposition who whilst talented on the ball lacked a cutting edge in the final third with the host's well organised and defending well. The Crows on the other hand were very strong on the counter attack in periods and were three goals up by the interval.
Debutant full back Joe Clemo's excellent cross was headed in by Jason Beck after just 2 minutes. Kaan Fehmi then hit the crossbar with a fierce twenty yarder before Ricky Young scored two well taken goals on 23 and 40 minutes both the result of swift moves from defence. Young was denied a first half hat trick only by the intervention of two fine saves from the keeper.
Concerningly The Crows lost both Martin Standen and Ashley Grinham to injuries to add to an absentee list already pushing double figures. The second half opened out a little more and became more end to end. With a little more care both teams could have created clearer chances from the approach play witnessed but whatever was created never seriously tested either keeper.
Press brought wto good saves from young Will Norris in goal whose handling throughout the game was again exceptional but he conceded his first goal in four games in the 85th minute from a close range half volley.
Royston will not know their next round opposition until the draw is made in November but for now the planning for Saturday's FA Vase game at Barking begins.
