Royston Town FC welcomed Fleet Town FC to Garden Walk hoping to put their recent FA Trophy replay defeat behind them and refocus on the league campaign. Fleet have had a mixed start to this season and are in the bottom half of the table.

It was a scrappy and frustrating first half with few real chances on goal being created by either side. Carl Edwards missed Royston’s best chance blasting high over the bar from a right side cross when he should have at least made the Fleet keeper work. The visitor’s only chance came from a long shot that Will Norris comfortably tipped over. The Crows toiled to create rare openings but lacked the cutting edge in front of goal and the required quality of final pass just wasn’t happening. The dour first half finished goalless.

Royston came out livelier in the second half and for the first fifteen minutes forced some good early pressure and looked the better side pinning Fleet back into their own half. A good move involving Luke Robins and Ryan Ingrey led to a snap shot from Russell Bull hitting the side-netting. Bull followed this up with another shot wide following some good play by Lee Wilson and Ryan Lockett. The game deteriorated back into a lifeless stalemate. The Royston substitutes failed to change things and despite centre half, Joe De La Salle, pushing on with two strong shots that proved to be Royston’s best chances on goal, Fleet Town returned to Hampshire with the point that they obviously came for.

Team: Norris, Endacott, Wilson, De La Salle, McDevitt (Parr), Collins, Edwards (Spencer), Lockett, Bull (Malins), Ingrey, Robins
