A pulsating encounter ended with the Crows cutting down the Poppies to claim an extremely hard earned three points.

It was Kettering who took a third minute lead as their first attack ended with Lindon Meikle  executing a fine side footed finish beyond Josh Tibbetts in the home goal.

The game really game to life just after the half hour mark as 2 quick fire goals saw Royston take the lead. Firstly Adam Marriott despatched a penalty after Gary Muligan had inexplicably handled a corner. Three minutes later the Crows were in front as a deflected Scott Bridges shot found the top corner.

Royston were unable to hold onto the lead until half time, as Matthew Stevens diverted Aaron O’Connor’s shot in from close range to equalise the scores up going into the break.

The second half remained a keenly contested affair but it was Royston who regained the lead as Josh Castiglione finished well following Bridges accurate through ball.

Once again Kettering replied as Tibbett’s upended former Crow Rhys Hoenes, giving Bret Solkhon the chance to confidently despatch the resulting penalty.

It was however the Crows that had the last laugh, as in the 86th minute substitute Rohdell Gordon’s cross was diverted into his own goal by fellow substitute Tom Marshall to give Royston the three points.
