After a tentative and cautious opening 15 minutes which had little action apart from long range efforts from Gary Hart and Kaan Fehmi, the Crows gradually took control of the game. A series of corners caused unrest in the Rugby defence and a far post header from Jack Bradshaw should have at least tested the keeper. Eventually the pressure told and a superb reverse pass ball by Fehmi on 37 minutes set up Chris Watters to score his first league goal for the Club.

The only noticeable effort on the Royston goal in the first half was a diving header from Lake-Gaskin which was deflected over the crossbar by a last-ditch tackle by debutant Nick Azzopardi.

In the second half, Fehmi should have added to the Crows lead in the 53rd minute but a minute later the chance was forgotten as Royston doubled their lead. Watters cut in from the left wing and shot with his weaker right foot, which cannoned off the Rugby keeper's chest and the alert Ryan Lockett followed up to score.

Rugby rallied well as Royston sat on their lead and a sloppy cross field pass from Scott Bridges was intercepted by Nathan Fox who fired home to lift the visiting Club further.

Good defending kept Rugby at distance and the Crows comfortably held on to a well deserved win.
