Match Royston Town Vets v Buntingford Town Vets
Competition Vets Friendly
Result Won 3-0

Town Vets had a comfortable 3-0 win over Buntingford but had it not been for the brilliance of the visitor’s ‘keeper the margin would have been much greater.

Town opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Paul Lewis beat the ‘keeper and slotted the ball home. Further chances were created with efforts from Lewis and fellow striker Peter Leete failing to beat the ‘keeper before Lewis latched onto a back pass and calmly steered the ball into the net to increase Town’s lead. Lewis was unlucky with an effort that crashed against the crossbar but shortly afterwards he was upended in the penalty area and he got up to score from the spot kick to complete his hat-trick.

Town continued to dominate the second half but Buntingford’s ‘keeper was again in inspired form with brilliant saves to deny first Leete and then Lewis with goalbound shots. Mark Saggers struck a firm drive that had the ‘keeper beaten but the ball crashed against the base of the right post and rebounded to safety. Ian Allen then hit a left-foot shot from the edge of the area but the ball skimmed the top of the bar and over. Buntingford had a couple of late efforts on goal themselves but Kevin Flack was in the right spot to block the first and Simon Dobson made an excellent save from the second.
