Match Report: Royston Town Vets v Cambridge Vets

Royston Town Vets   3-1  Cambridge Vets

Royston Town Vets continued their good early season form with a 3-1 victory over Cambridge Vets at Garden Walk on Sunday.

Chris Geldart opened the scoring after 5 minutes when he controlled a long through ball from right back Kevin Barthrop, outpaced the defender and coolly slotted home. Laurence Revell, back from a wrist injury, surged forward from midfield and lobbed the 'keeper only to see his shot rebound off the cross-bar to safety.  The visitors levelled from the penalty spot when referee Geoff Pinner adjudged that Town 'keeper Paul Barnes's last-ditch challenge against the oncoming Cambridge forward was illegal.

The first 25 minutes to the second half was evenly-contested with Town struggling to find their passing game of the first half. Town were gifted a second goal mid-way through the half when the Cambridge 'keeper's intended throw out to his team-mate was intercepted by Lee Wilkinson who calmly found the net from 20 yards. Chris Geldart completed the scoring with a well-taken goal to cap a fine game in midfield for Town.

Andy Howard had an excellent game playing at left back for Cambridge Vets who turned up a man light.

The Vets play Walkern Vets in Stevenage next week.
