Match Royston Town Vets v Glaxo Vets
Competition Friendly
Result Won 4-2
Royston Scorers McQueen, Wenlock, Humphreys, Saggers

Town Vets welcomed Glaxo Vets to Garden Walk for the first time and the visitors put up a spirited display before Town finally ran out 4-2 winners.

Town enjoyed the best of ball possession early in the game and deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes when centre-back Matt McQueen headed in a Paul Wenlock cross. Nejat Kocak then delivered an excellent cross for Wenlock to head home and the same player thought he had scored again with a header but the effort was ruled offside. Paddy Coughlin was adjudged by referee Martin Pope to have fouled a Glaxo player in the penalty area but Simon Dobson made a brilliant one-handed save from the resultant penalty kick to preserve Town’s 2-0 lead at the break.

Town increased their lead 10 minutes into the second half when Nick Humphreys hit a fierce left-foot shot from 25 yards. The visitors then took advantage of a couple of bits of slack play by Town’s defence to reduce the arrears to 2-3. Town then nudged further ahead again when Geoff Pinner and Kocak combined to set up a good opportunity for Mark Saggers who duly converted with a crisp drive into the corner of the net.

A combined Royston Town and Cambridge over 50s side is scheduled to play Newport over 50s on Wednesday (10th October) at Garden Walk.

Town Vets then face a demanding trip to Hemingford Sunday 14th October.
