Royston Town Vets took a well-earned point from the Cambs FA Invitation League 1 encounter with league leaders Great Shelford Vets at Garden Walk on Sunday.

After a goal-less first half, Town took an early lead in the second half when a Shelford defender's back pass eluded the 'keeper and trickled into the net. Shelford equalised soon after when one of the visitor's forwards outpaced the Town defence to beat 'keeper Simon Dobson.

Town regained the lead with the best move of the match. Lee Rogers, who had an outstanding game in midfield, fed the ball to Nick Humphreys on the left who delivered a pin-point cross for Kevin Barthrop to head in.

A sustained period of pressure from the visitors finally paid off when a shot from the edge of the 18-yard area through a ruck of players took a wicked deflection past Dobson to tie the score at 2-2.
