Match Report: Royston Town Vets v Linton Aztecs Vets

Royston Town Vets 1 Linton Aztecs Vets 1 (4-2 after penalties)

Royston Town Vets returned to action after a 4-week break with a win on penalties over Linton Aztec Vets in the Cambs FA Vets Invitation Cup played at St Catharines College Ground on Sunday.

In a first half dominated by a gale force wind, few chances were created although Town had the majority of possession.

Kicking against the wind in the second half Town took an early lead when Paul Gibson latched onto a Linton defender's misplaced back pass to the 'keeper and slotted home the opener. Town continued to control the game and should have increased their lead when Stuart Snowden failed to convert a good chance when clear in the 5-yard area with only the 'keeper to beat.

With 10 minutes remaining Linton equalised from a free kick when Lee Rogers was adjudged by the ref to have committed a foul on the edge of the penalty area.

Town won the match 4-2 with a penalty shoot-out. Town's scorers were Stuart Snowden, Lee Rogers, Nick King and Geoff Pinner.

The Vets have been drawn at home to Great Shelford Vets in the quarter-finals on 1 February.
