Town Vets continued their successful defence of the Cambs Veterans Invitation Cup with a thumping 8-1 win over Linton.

The visitors arrived with only 10 men so Paul Wenlock played up front for them. Andy Beatie started in the back four for Town with Matt McQueen moving into midfield.

Town controlled the game for the first 30 minutes but failed to capitalise on the chances created. Peter Leete broke the deadlock on 35 minutes when he rounded the 'keeper and fired a right foot shot into an empty net. The lead was then extended with virtually a carbon copy goal when a long ball from defence found Paul Lewis in space and he duly slotted home.

The second half became one-way traffic as Town piled on the pressure and added six more goals through Leete (with 2 more to make another hat-trick), John Moulding, Carlo Silenti and Nick Humphreys, who having missed a sitter from 5 yards made amends with 2 goals, the second of which was a left foot screamer from 25 yards.

Simon Dobson had been largely untroubled in goal for Town throughout the game until the last five minutes when Town's defence were caught square and Paul Wenlock ran through to slot a well taken consolation goal past him.
