Royston Town Vets   1-1    Therfield Fox & Duck  

As Hitchin Town Vets, Royston Town Vets scheduled opponents in the Herts Sunday Veterans Cup, called off because they could not raise a team (and conceded the game to Royston) a friendly fixture against Therfield Fox & Duck was arranged for Garden Walk.

In a closely-fought first half Fox & Duck had a good chance to take the lead but Nick King – deputising in goal for regular ‘keeper Paul Barnes – made a brilliant penalty kick save to prevent the visitors from taking the lead.

At the other end of the pitch Town took the lead themselves when Chris Geldart scored following a corner kick.

With ten minutes of the game left Fox & Duck equalised when a long kick from their ‘keeper eluded the Town defence and found a visitors’ forward who ran through to score.

Town still had time to win the game when shots by Lee Wilkinson and Stuart Snowden peppered the visitors goal from close range but failed to breach the defences and the final score remained 1-1.

Vets are scheduled to travel to Pembroke College in Cambridge next Sunday to play Newnham Red Bull Vets.
