Royston Town Ladies got their new season off to a perfect start on Sunday with a 3-1 victory away at Sawbridgeworth.

However, after a very bright start found themselves a goal down after 10 minutes when a hopeful ball over the top caught Royston’s defence flat-footed. It was Royston who dominated possession for the rest of the first half but never really threatened the Sawbridgeworth goal.

The second half saw Royston play with more tempo and determination and although Jenny Probert’s shot was saved Emma Chaffey was on hand to score the equaliser. Probert then made it 2-1 with a fine half volley off Leanne Buchannan’s free kick and added another when the keeper failed to hold Chaffey’s stinging long range effort and was left with a simple tap-in.
